Pure island fantasy
One of the most extraordinary luxury retreats in the worldDestination: Necker Island, British Virgin Islands
Vacation: Private island
Seeking: Secluded luxury
Highlight: Mesmerising views
Just north of Virgin Gorda, in the British Virgin Islands, surrounded by the shimmering turquoise waters of the eastern Caribbean Sea, lies Necker Island, 74 acres of pure luxury island fantasy.
Necker island is owned by British billionaire, entrepreneur, and founder of the Virgin Group, Sir Richard Branson. Because you would, if you could.
Part of Virgin’s Limited Edition property portfolio Necker Island is barely believable. Just look at it. Turquoise waters, tick. Pristine white sand beaches, tick. Remote, almost secret location, like it’s risen from the depths of a pirate fantasy, tick. Lodgings straight out of a Bond film with impressive names like The Great House (with 11 guest rooms no less), massive tick.
And incredibly, you can stay here. Or book the whole island. As you wish.
You can get to Necker Island via Terrance B. Lettsome International Airport, the main airport serving the British Virgin Islands, on Beef Island. And, at the time of writing this article, you can fly into Beef Island via some of the more frequently visited Caribbean islands like Puerto Rico, Antigua and St. Thomas. You can get to Beef Island by private jet or boat, and if you want to fly straight to Necker Island you can also arrive by helicopter because, of course, Necker Island has a helipad.

The island can be hired exclusively for groups of up to 48 people, or if you’re not looking to hire it exclusively you can still enjoy the Necker experience by taking a room as a couple, individual or family during selected weeks throughout the year called ‘Celebration Weeks’.
