Island dream

In the heart of the Caribbean

Chic, secluded, private island luxury in the heart of the Grenadines

Destination: St Vincent and the Grenadines, Caribbean
Vacation: Secluded luxury
Seeking: Tropical paradise
Highlight: Private island resort

Sometimes it’s just not enough to get away. Sometimes you really need to put a little cerulean blue between yourself and normality. Luckily places (by ‘places’ read unimaginable secluded paradise) like Petit St Vincent in St Vincent and the Grenadines exist for just such occasions.

Petit St. Vincent resort lies 40 miles south of St. Vincent in the very heart of the Grenadines – one of the most beautiful stretches of water in the Caribbean, and one of the best Caribbean islands to visit for ultimate indulgence. Cooled by the trade winds, and sitting just 12 ̊ 32’ north of the equator, the island is famed for its near-perfect climate all year round.

The 115-acre island is home to lush green hills, palm-fringed beaches, and miles of rugged coastline. 22 exquisite villas can be found on the hillside, the beach, and the bluff along the eastern side of the island, and are just a short walk from the main beaches, two restaurants and hillside spa (naturally).

A boutique beach resort where low-key luxury meets high-end service. A place to disconnect from the world and reconnect with each other. This is Caribbean living as you dream it can be.

Best food & drink

1. Pan roasted barracuda

Follow the curved stone staircase and scent of fragrant tropical flowers and you’ll find Petit St Vincent’s main pavilion bar and restaurant – the perfect place for romantic dinners come sundown.

Petit St Vincent’s internationally-inspired dishes celebrate local ingredients, from fresh fish and hand caught lobster to home grown salads and vegetables. And all of this is complemented by the finest imported meats, including Black Angus beef and New Zealand lamb.

Menus change every day, but always feature meat, seafood, and vegetarian options, amongst the delicious choices of appetizers, main courses and desserts. Special dietary needs are easily taken care of, and low carb and gluten free items are always available for each course.

Try the pan roasted baraccuda with ginger veloute, sweet potato gnocchi, wood ear mushroom and vegetable noodles.

2. Lobster tail

On the leeward side of the island, surrounded by swaying palms and sugar-white sands, lies Petit St Vincent beach restaurant and bar.

The open-air restaurant is where you can dine on chargrilled locally caught seafood, vibrant Mediterranean-inspired salads, or choose from Petit St Vincent’s selection of freshly baked clay oven pizzas. Those craving comfort food can tuck into juicy Black Angus burgers or Caribbean jerk chicken. And, between November 1 and April 30, all guests can feast on complimentary fresh lobster.

Stretching over over the water’s edge is Goatie’s Bar. With a traditional grass thatched roof, low-cushioned sofas, and round rattan loungers, there’s nowhere better to enjoy a drink or two come sundown. Choose from a selection of locally brewed beers, chilled wines from the cellar, or ask the team to mix up one of their signature rum punches.

Try chef’s speciality buttered poach lobster tail served with brunoise vegetables, pommes maxim and plain beetroot essence.

3. Fine wine

Petit St Vincent walk-in wine cellar houses over 6,000 Old World and New World wines. With an emphasis on regional styles and terroir, Petit St Vincent’s collection features multi-award winners such as Joseph Phelps Insignia, Penfolds Grange and Domaine Ott to name but a few. They’ve also curated an exclusive collection of champagne, barrel-aged rums from all corners of the Caribbean, and a selection of world-famous whiskeys, cognacs, and gins.

Join a Petit St Vincent sommelier on a tasting journey across the globe, discover which of their smooth, Cognac-style rums marry deliciously with the chef’s chocolate desserts, or simply let them pop open a bottle of your favourite champagne.

We’re not leaving this island. Ever.

Islands

Petit St. Vincent feels a whole world away, and there’s plenty to explore right on your doorstep. However, if you do feel adventurous during your stay and you fancy doing some exploring Petit St Vincent is just a short boat ride from some of the most beautiful islands in the Grenadines.

Relax on pristine white sand beaches and make friends with the locals in beach bars serving punchy, rum-infused cocktails. Meander through colorful fruit markets, sample seafood from traditional lobster shacks, and experience what is undoubtably some of the best snorkeling in the Caribbean.

A few incredible destinations are within cruising distance. Tobago Cays Marine Park is teeming with everything from bright and colorful fish to majestic sea turtles. Spend some time relaxing on the sugar-white sands under the shade of the palms before snorkeling among the shoals of fish and intricate coral reefs.

With just a few lobster shacks, quaint local markets and colorful houses, Union Island is the perfect place to enjoy a taste of traditional West Indian life. On the windward side is Happy Island (an island made entirely out of conch shells) where you’ll find a quirky bar serving rum-infused cocktails.

The island of Mustique is home to palm-fringed beaches, azure waters, and over 120 privately-owned villas. It is also where you’ll find the legendary Basil’s Bar – the perfect place to enjoy a traditional rum cocktail and watch the sun go down.

“I’m not sure what to do today?”

“We could go to Mustique?”

Who would say no to that?

Calabash Cove Resort & Spa, St Lucia

It’s hard to describe the first impressions of Calabash Cove Resort & Spa in a way that will do the first few steps, and that view, justice, but the closest thing we can liken it to is taking a slow, deep breath and then feeling your whole body begin to relax as you exhale.

Looking down at Marigot Bay from the meandering island road in the St Lucian hills above as we approached the resort, with its sparkling waters and dramatic rainforest backdrop, was a spectacular way to get reaquainted.
