Fonteverde’s Bioaquam pool connects an indoor space with an outdoor section overlooking the Val d’Orcia, with underwater seats and hydromassage areas. Near Pisa, Bagni di Pisa has a bathing basin cut directly into rock. At Grotta Giusti, thermal chambers extend beneath a nineteenth-century villa, their walls shaped by stalactites and stalagmites.

Italian Hospitality Collection has announced autumn wellness packages at these three historic Tuscan resorts, bringing olive oil, wine aromas and thermal mud into two- and three-night stays. Each offers a different setting for a short escape, with time between treatments to explore medieval villages, artisan food producers or the region’s thermal history.

Late October brings some timely reasons to travel, including Lucca Comics & Games and Fonteverde’s All Saints’ weekend offer. Bagni di Pisa’s seasonal package continues into December. All starting prices below are per person for the whole package, based on sharing a double room.

1. Bagni di Pisa: palace rooms and a private-feeling thermal cave

Bagni di Pisa occupies the former summer residence of the Grand Duke of Tuscany in San Giuliano Terme, well placed for exploring Pisa and Lucca. Its suites retain eighteenth-century vaulted ceilings with pastel frescoes, alongside flooring made of marble, graniglia and Tuscan terracotta. Some have parquet mezzanines, adding another layer to the palace’s historic interiors.

The thermal waters emerge from the Monti Pisani at 38°C. The Grand Dukes’ Cave is a small natural cavity reached through an eighteenth-century tunnel, with a basin carved into the rock and spring water at around 40°C. Its compact, enclosed setting gives the bathing experience an intimacy quite different from Grotta Giusti’s extensive underground chambers.

The two-night autumn package includes a 25-minute experience in the cave and a 25-minute anti-stress massage using Tuscan fragrances. The three-night version adds a 20-minute thermal bath scented with red wine, accompanied by a glass of prosecco and seasonal fruit.

Pool time is included too, with access to thermal circuits, hydromassage pools, a sea-salt pool, Turkish bath and sauna. Breakfast features local products, and the package also provides fitness-centre access, a bathrobe, slippers and swimming cap.

Bagni di Pisa’s Dolce Vita autumn stay starts at €319 for two nights or €478 for three, and is valid until 20 December 2026.

Lucca Comics & Games runs from 28 October to 1 November, covering comics, board games, cinema and popular culture. For travellers combining the festival with a spa break, Bagni di Pisa offers a base outside the city, with thermal bathing to return to between events.

2. Grotta Giusti: underground chambers and olive-oil treatments

Grotta Giusti stands in Monsummano Terme, in the Valdinievole, within a 40-acre private park. Guests stay in a nineteenth-century villa retaining its original façade, frescoed ceilings and paintings, while the resort’s most distinctive feature lies beneath the building.

The natural thermal grotto, discovered in 1849, extends for more than 200 metres. Its chambers are named Paradise, Purgatory and Hell, with temperatures ranging from 28°C to 34°C. At the bottom, the thermal lake known as Limbo stays naturally at 36°C. Those details give the underground setting its character: mineral formations, enclosed chambers and naturally warm water.

The seasonal package concentrates on Tuscan ingredients and fragrances. A two-night stay includes a 50-minute olive-oil massage and a 20-minute thermal-mud facial mask. The three-night option includes a 50-minute back treatment using thermal mud and natural botanicals, plus an 80-minute regenerating face-and-body aromatherapy treatment.

Grotta Giusti’s Scent of Tuscany package starts at €400 for two nights or €700 for three. Both include buffet breakfast, thermal pools and spa circuits, gym access and relaxation areas. A morning hike with a fitness trainer is available by reservation, except on Sundays.

The thermal facilities include a therapeutic pool with hydro-jets, indoor bathing areas, steam baths, saunas and ice fountains. Ask about arranging the resort’s guided underground experiences alongside the package if exploring the grotto is central to your visit.

Montecatini Alto offers a nearby medieval-village excursion with panoramic views. In Monsummano Terme, artisan chocolatier Slitti provides another reason to leave the spa for a few hours: the resort offers visits following chocolate production from cocoa through to packaging and displays. The business began as a coffee roaster in 1969.

3. Fonteverde: valley views and Tuscany’s thermal history

Fonteverde overlooks the Val d’Orcia from San Casciano dei Bagni. Its architecture developed from a Medici portico commissioned over a mineral spring, with the historic palazzo dating to 1607. The connection between the building, its waters and the surrounding landscape remains central to a stay here.

The Bioaquam pool moves between indoor and outdoor spaces, with massaging jets, underwater seats and beds looking towards the valley. Other bathing settings include the colour-lit Lux thermal pool and an outdoor hotel thermal pool. Breakfast and evening aperitifs are served on the large panoramic terrace, extending time spent overlooking the landscape beyond the spa.

Fonteverde’s two-night All Saints’ weekend package includes a 50-minute massage inspired by the aromas of local wine and a 20-minute Rasul Ritual combining thermal water, mud and personalised clays. The autumn getaway starts at €754 and covers 30 October to 1 November 2026, with a further booking window from 4 to 8 December.

San Casciano dei Bagni also offers a compelling way to explore the much older history of these waters. Excavations in 2022–2024 uncovered bronze statues, heads, votive offerings and coins in the muddy waters of an Etruscan-Roman thermal sanctuary beside a still-active spring. The objects were offerings connected with healing and divine protection.

Valdichiana Living’s guided thermal-history visit combines the Stanze Cassianensi exhibition rooms, a walk to the Santuario Ritrovato excavation and day admission to Fonteverde’s spa. The itinerary explores the discovery and its setting, although the 24 bronze statues themselves are currently away from San Casciano dei Bagni. Transfers cost extra and can be requested.

Harvest-season stops to plan around

Autumn’s olive harvest brings olio nuovo, freshly pressed olive oil, while the grape harvest and seasonal food events give a Tuscan itinerary plenty of scope beyond the thermal pools. A two-night stay allows for a focused spa break; three nights leave more time for a village visit or an artisan-food excursion alongside the treatments.

San Miniato’s white-truffle season runs from October to January. If your route includes the town, the 55th White Truffle Fair takes place in its historic centre on 14–15, 21–22 and 28–29 November 2026. Visitors must use the shuttle to reach the centre rather than drive their own vehicles; it departs from Via Francesco Guerazzi, 102, for Piazza Dante.
