Stylish luxury boutique
Unique Barbados beachfront hotel and restaurantDestination: Barbados, Caribbean
Vacation: Beachfront paradise
Seeking: Boutique beach hotel
Highlight: Location & restaurant
It really says something that the design of The Lone Star Hotel & Restaurant is so impressive that your gaze is torn between its sleek white structure, and the mesmeric beach it’s nestled on.
Alleynes Bay beach is arguably the best beach in Barbados located along the country’s famous Platinum Coast. Its white-gold sands and turquoise waters regularly feature on lists of the world’s best beaches too. And it’s this, quite frankly unbelievably idyllic spot, plus the wonderfully crafted design, that gave The Lone Star Hotel & Restaurant a well-earned place on our list of the best Barbados west coast hotels as well.
Transformed from one of the first gas stations on the island The Lone Star Hotel & Restaurant has just seven stunning luxury rooms with names like Cadillac, Buick and Lincoln as a nod to the hotel’s history.
All of the bedrooms have contemporary, stylish décor, to match the rest of the beautifully designed resort. An impressive staircase leads down to the incredibly highly regarded Lone Star Restaurant, which is nothing short of jaw-dropping whether you arrive from the staircase or the beach.
So well regarded, and widely known, is the restaurant we actually had people from all over the world message us when we posted some pictures on Wild Bay Co’s Instagram, saying they’d long admired its design and it was high up on their luxury travel wishlists.

Best food & drink
1. The Lone Star Restaurant
When there’s a restaurant as good as The Lone Star Restaurant at the hotel why go anywhere else? Pretty much anywhere you sit you’re guaranteed one unbelievable view, but if you grab a spot right by the sand so you can hear the waves crashing onto the shore while you sip on your cocktails it’s extra special and highly recommended.
A fusion of the finest European foods and Caribbean flavours The Lone Star Restaurant offers a great variety of tasty dishes.
The Blackened Fresh Market Fish with parsley new potatoes, wilted local greens and a lime broth was exceptional. As was the Rum Sour.
Just as some of our Instagram followers had their eye on visiting The Lone Star for some time, so had we, and it didn’t disappoint. Arriving early for dinner service one evening so we could sit and leisurely watch the sunset, light spilling over both the sea and the super-stylish décor of the restaurant, was spectacular. Definitely visit if you get the chance.
Stay
Lone Star offers a choice of luxury rooms and suites. The Cadillac and Lincoln penthouses, Buick and Studebaker Ocean-Front Suites and the Shelby and Corvette Deluxe Garden Rooms. Each room is named in honour of an automobile legend, a sensitive nod to the Lone Star Hotel’s past as an historic former gas station.
Cadillac, Buick and Studebaker are spacious rooms combining polished mahogany floors, 4 poster beds and sumptuous fabrics exuding simple elegance. Each features a private terrace with uninterrupted views of the turquoise ocean.
Corvette and Shelby are situated in The Coral Beach House. Beautifully restored and upgraded featuring garden terraces and glimpses of the ocean. Both rooms have direct access to the beach. Crisp fresh linen and generous bath towels are complemented by the finest products during your stay.
Explore
It’s hard to imagine a better base to explore Barbados, both what’s on your doorstep and as a spot from which to discover the rest of the island.
The Lone Star Hotel & Restaurant is right on Alleynes Bay beach. As soon as you step off the white wooden steps you’re on the white-gold sand, swaying palm leaves in the breeze and seemingly endless turquoise waters ahead of you. To your left you’ll see the pastel pink buildings of the Fairmont Royal Pavilion, another outstanding boutique resort, and if you head that way you’ll uncover the most idyllic of beach walks. And if you turn right – it’s more of the same. Tropical fringed pristine sand paradise.
Further afield there’s so much to see and do in Barbados it’s impossible to mention everything, but some of our favourites include the Mount Gay Rum distillery, the horse racing at Garrison Savannah racetrack and Carlisle Bay, another stunning stretch of Barbados’ coastline further to the south.
Relax
The Lone Star Hotel & Restaurant is the perfect place to come and relax. Days spent admiring the fine touches to each carefully curated and designed room on the property, while sampling the array of lovingly prepared dishes and drinks, especially the cocktails, on offer.
All the while taking in that view. The hotel’s prime location on one of the world’s best beaches is nothing short of breathtaking, and having the shallow warm waters of the Caribbean to soak in, right on your doorstep, is bound to occupy most of your time. Until you get hungry, or thirsty, and venture back to the spellbinding restaurant. And repeat.
Whether you’re in the water, or looking out to sea, you won’t be able to gather in enough of that view to feel like you’re doing it justice. We spent most of our time simply meandering along the shore taking note of the changing scenery, and feeling more and more relaxed as the days passed.

Spice Island Beach Resort, Grenada
There’s a special aura to Spice Island Beach Resort in Grenada. It struck us as soon as we arrived. The interior design is beautiful; white fans and woven wooden lampshades dotted overhead, lush green tropical vines spiralling across the ceiling, over pristine white archways, and the bright green leaves of potted plants reaching up between the white and tan-coloured furniture. But it was the sense of calm, homeliness and assured comfort that was most enchanting.
Silversands Grand Anse, Grenada
Silversands Grand Anse was a resort we’d wanted to visit for what seemed like forever. It has the longest infinity pool in the Caribbean, the architecture is chic, minimalist, eye-catching and most appealing the hotel’s located right on the shores of Grand Anse, one of the most beautiful beaches in Grenada.
Silversands Beach House, Grenada
A spectacular boutique luxury hotel immersed in Grenada’s natural beauty, Silversands Beach House wowed us on arrival with its unique show-stopping architecture and left us completely obsessed with its dreamy secluded white sand beach.
