Sopwell House will hold its fourth Diwali party in St Albans on Friday 6 November 2026, with street-food stalls across two event spaces. The Hertfordshire hotel is planning a welcome drink, a DJ set, live performances and fireworks in its gardens. Bookings start at £109 per person.
The evening begins at 7pm, with the music and dancing carrying on until midnight. This year, guests will be able to eat throughout the party instead of gathering for the seated sharing feast offered in 2025.
The party falls two days before Diwali’s main date in 2026, Sunday 8 November, making it a Friday-night start to the festival weekend.
Street food in the St Alban Suite and The Mountbatten
Guests will be welcomed with a drink before heading into the St Alban Suite and The Mountbatten event space. Sopwell House plans to transform both rooms for the celebration, taking inspiration from the atmosphere of Indian food markets. Stands and carts will serve dishes through the evening, so dinner can happen around the entertainment rather than at a set sitting.
The hotel has yet to name the dishes. This is an evening built around food stations, with room to go back for something else between dances. If you’re attending with a group, it also means everyone can follow their own appetite rather than stay at one table for dinner.
A DJ set and a series of live performances are planned throughout the night. Sopwell House says there will be a large dancefloor. The hotel has not set out a running order for the performances, so it’s worth arriving for the full evening if there is an act you’d hate to miss.
Later, guests will head into the landscaped gardens for a fireworks display. Music and dancing will continue afterwards.
How the Diwali party has changed since 2025
The 2025 event listing described canapés and street-style food stations before guests moved into the St Alban Suite for a seated sharing feast. That evening also featured a DJ, Dhol drummers and fireworks, followed by dancing until midnight.
Food stalls and carts will serve throughout the party, and the celebration will use The Mountbatten as well as the St Alban Suite.
The hotel is billing its fourth edition as its biggest Diwali party yet. Last year’s Dhol drummers are a detail to remember rather than an act to count on this time: Sopwell House has promised live performances for 2026 but has not named the performers. Anyone returning for the dinner format should take note of the switch to stalls before booking.
A country-house setting for a late night
Sopwell House is a Georgian country-house hotel set in 12 acres of Hertfordshire countryside in St Albans. It’s a lovely setting for a late finish, especially if you fancy making a stay of it.
The independent, family-owned hotel has 126 rooms and suites, including 16 individually redesigned Mews Suites. Its Cottonmill Spa is another reason to consider staying beyond the party, though the announced price is for event bookings; guests interested in an overnight visit should check room and spa arrangements separately with the hotel.
Sopwell House is also home to the Asian-inspired Omboo and The Brasserie. For this event, though, dinner is planned around the temporary food stalls in the party spaces. The hotel is within easy reach of London St Pancras and Luton Airport.
