Patina Osaka, the 221-room luxury hotel beside Osaka Castle, has launched a limited-edition collection with artist VERDY after topping Travel + Leisure’s 2026 global hotel ranking.

The new design brings together Vick, VERDY’s original character, and Patina Osaka’s butterfly symbol. It appears across merchandise available at the hotel, while a separate tote bag is reserved for the first 1,000 eligible direct bookings.

Launched on 8 August, just over a month after the awards were announced, the collection continues a creative partnership established when Patina Osaka opened in May 2025. VERDY was born in Osaka and has served as the hotel’s Creative Partner since its launch.

Patina Osaka takes first place in Travel + Leisure’s awards

Patina Osaka was ranked No. 1 in Travel + Leisure’s 2026 list of the world’s best hotels. It also received the designation of No. 1 City Hotel in Asia.

Readers use the annual survey to evaluate a broad range of travel experiences, from hotels and destinations to cruises, airlines and spas. More than 661,000 votes from over 207,000 readers formed its results, covering 10,088 hotels and other travel entries.

According to Time Out Osaka, Patina Osaka is the first Japanese property to lead Travel + Leisure’s worldwide hotel list. The result came little more than a year after the hotel officially welcomed its first guests on 1 May 2025.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Patina Osaka as its Creative Partner since last summer, and to see the hotel receive such an incredible honour as being named the World’s No. 1 Hotel so soon after opening means a great deal to me because the hotel is located in my hometown of Osaka, and I feel immensely proud of what it has achieved,” VERDY said.

Vick and the Patina butterfly shape the new design

The celebratory graphic depicts Vick alongside a butterfly, which Patina uses as a symbol of transformation. Together, the characters connect VERDY’s distinctive visual language with the identity of the hotel and its home city.

VERDY created Vick alongside other recognisable projects including Girls Don’t Cry, Wasted Youth and the character Visty. His wider portfolio includes work with Nike, KENZO, Louis Vuitton, Minions and Dover Street Market, alongside creative roles for HUMAN MADE and Blackpink’s 2023 world tour.

The artist has also been presenting “Believe in Me”, his largest solo exhibition to date, at Seoul’s Lotte Museum of Art since April 2026. His work spans streetwear and visual art.

The new collaboration includes a T-shirt priced at ¥8,300, including tax, in white or black and sizes M, L and XL. It is sold through Patina Osaka’s Level 1 retail shop while stocks last.

The hotel’s wider VERDY merchandise catalogue includes sweatshirts, outerwear, children’s clothing, socks and stickers. Listed prices range from ¥2,200 for a small logo item to ¥35,000 for one of the clothing pieces, although sizes and availability vary.

The Level 1 shop is listed as opening from 11.30am to 6pm between Monday and Friday. Weekend hours are 10am to 6pm.

A limited tote bag for direct bookings

A separate VERDY × Patina Osaka tote bag has been created for hotel guests and will not be offered for general sale. It is limited to the first 1,000 reservations that meet the published conditions.

Guests must book through the Patina Osaka website or by telephone, with check-in taking place from 8 August 2026. Reservations made through online travel agencies or travel companies do not qualify.

The terms provide one tote bag per reservation per stay, including when several rooms appear under one booking. Distribution is first come, first served and can finish without notice once all bags have been claimed.

Direct telephone reservations can be made on +81 6-6941-8888. Travellers booking specifically for the tote should confirm availability with the hotel before finalising their stay.

Inside Patina Osaka

Set between the Naniwanomiya Palace Ruins and Osaka Castle, Patina Osaka is the first Japanese property from Capella Hotel Group. The 20-storey hotel uses aged copper and selected timber throughout its interiors, with flowing water incorporated into a design inspired by Osaka’s history as the City of Water.

Its 221 rooms and suites follow the Japanese idea of kisetsukan, an awareness of the changing seasons. Tatami daybeds sit beside contemporary furnishings, while washi-paper headboards take inspiration from the granite walls surrounding Osaka Castle.

Many rooms overlook Osaka Castle. Castle-facing views also appear from the indoor pool, hot tub and Nijiri tea lounge.

P72, the hotel’s signature restaurant, takes its name from Japan’s 72 micro-seasons. Its menus use seasonal produce sourced from regional growers, the hotel’s urban garden and an organic farm on nearby Awaji Island.

At Sonata Bar & Lounge, a wall of upcycled vintage Japanese speakers gives the space a strong visual and musical identity. The Listening Room by OJAS continues that focus through custom speakers and a vinyl collection curated by sound sculptor Devon Turnbull.

Wellness facilities occupy a 15,000-square-foot floor with a lap pool, hot tub and treatment rooms. The hotel also schedules guided runs, breathwork sessions, aqua walking and fermentation workshops.

Travel + Leisure listed nightly rates from $436 in its review, although prices depend on travel dates, availability and room category.

A partnership rooted in Osaka

Patina Osaka first announced its work with VERDY in July 2025, shortly after opening. That initial release described it as the artist’s first collaboration with a luxury hotel.

The original collection included three T-shirt designs, a workwear jacket and stickers made with environmentally conscious materials. It formed part of a broader cultural programme encompassing rotating exhibitions, creator residencies and events spanning art, music, fashion and gastronomy.

“In working with Patina Osaka, I felt that my role was to represent the fusion of street culture and luxury,” VERDY said when the first collection was introduced. He said remaining faithful to his usual graphic style allowed the work to fit the project without losing its street-culture origins.

The 2026 pieces continue that approach. Vick remains central, while the butterfly links the collection to Patina Osaka.

The retail collection is available exclusively through Patina Osaka while stock remains. The complimentary tote has separate conditions and will end once the allocation for 1,000 eligible direct reservations has been distributed.
