Patina Maldives, Fari Islands has announced a new Perpetual Journey programme running from September 2026 to January 2027, bringing creative residencies, destination dining, family sport and personalised wellness to the North Malé Atoll.

Located 45 minutes from Malé by speedboat, the luxury island resort has built its seasonal calendar around collaborations with Maldivian creatives and visiting international specialists. The latest programme moves between working artist studios, Japanese thermal therapy, modern izakaya pop-ups, junior football coaching and a three-day Diwali celebration.

The Perpetual Journey is organised around four themes: connection, growth, wellbeing and nourishment. Patina integrates the four themes across its restaurants, spa spaces and Fari Art Atelier. The resort’s wider collection of destination experiences also includes nature-led activities and cultural encounters.

Aishath Shuaila opens her working studio to guests

Maldivian artist Aishath Shuaila begins a residency at the Fari Art Atelier on 22 September, remaining at Patina Maldives until 10 October. Developed with Art Gallery Malé, the programme follows residencies by Ahmed Khaleel in June and Hassan Najih in July.

The atelier will become Shuaila’s working studio rather than a static exhibition room. Guests will be able to encounter her creative process through workshops, informal conversations and open-studio experiences as new pieces take shape.

Drawing on her interest in nature and her background in sustainability, Shuaila uses vivid colour and assertive brushwork to interpret the patterns and textures of Maldivian flora and fauna. Her residency supports Patina’s continuing effort to give contemporary Maldivian artists an international platform within the resort.

Guests can meet the artist and observe how the surrounding environment enters her work.

Shezad Dawood explores the marine environment

From 18 October to 8 November, London-based multidisciplinary artist Shezad Dawood will undertake fieldwork as the first winner of the Patina Art Residency.

Dawood’s practice connects contemporary art with scientific research and environmental advocacy. He has spent more than a decade speaking with marine biologists and environmentalists, while earlier projects have examined ocean narratives through film, textiles and digital installation.

During his time in the Maldives, Dawood will study the local marine ecology and begin developing a work informed by the programme’s 2025 theme, Fluid Worlds. The theme considers how boundaries shift between cultures and ideas, as well as between natural elements.

Quartet London and Darius Sanai, LUX magazine’s owner and editor-in-chief, collaborated on creating the annual residency. An international jury selected Dawood from global submissions for work examining culture, sustainability and contemporary perspectives.

His visit follows another art-led marine project at Patina Maldives. During the second Fari Islands Festival in August, guests worked with designer and artist Sean Wotherspoon on Respect the Reef, a ceramic fish sculpture later submerged as a structure intended to encourage coral attachment and growth.

Yardbird brings Yakido to the Maldives

Hong Kong modern izakaya Yardbird will bring its travelling Yakido concept to Patina Maldives from 6 to 10 October. The collaboration includes two nights at Brasa alongside pop-ups and movement sessions elsewhere around the island.

Yakido is built around the sociable energy of Japanese-inspired grilling and bar culture. At Patina, the schedule expands beyond its dinners to include ALWAYS FRIENDS BY ALWAYS JOY on 8 October and a Veli Bar appearance by MR. IKO, the pizza project associated with chef Max Levy.

Lindsay Jang will also lead strength and mobility sessions during the residency. The combination reflects the resort’s approach to nourishment, linking a visiting restaurant with activities beyond dinner.

FC Bayern Munich coaching returns for young players

Families visiting during the October half-term period can book a five-day FC Bayern Munich football camp from 25 to 29 October. Designed for players aged six to 17, the programme will be led by FC Bayern Munich coach Jonas Caryot.

Small-group sessions allow for focused instruction, with up to five hours of training scheduled each day. Rest periods are incorporated into the programme, leaving young players time to recover and enjoy the island between sessions.

The camp follows FC Bayern programmes held at Patina Maldives earlier in 2026, including sessions in late March and early April. Its October return gives families a structured activity within a resort stay while retaining the relaxed pace expected from a Maldives holiday.

Atul Kochhar leads Patina’s Diwali dining

Patina Maldives will mark Diwali with Moments of Connection, a three-day programme running from 7 to 9 November. The celebration brings together chef Atul Kochhar, bartender Giancarlo Mancino and Bangalore-based sound artist Sakré, with restaurant events and evening music across the resort.

Kochhar was the first Indian chef to receive a Michelin star, earning one while at Tamarind in 2001 and another at Benares in 2007. At Helios, he will adapt the culinary identity of his London restaurant, Kanishka by Atul Kochhar, for its Indian Ocean setting.

His menu will focus on contemporary interpretations of India’s regional cooking, combining bold spicing with refined technique and premium ingredients. The Maldivian setting should complement Kochhar’s seafood-focused dishes and lighter coastal flavours, although the complete menu has yet to be released.

Mancino, the bartender behind the SeiBellissimi range of sparkling bottled cocktails, will return to Patina for guest shifts and dedicated drinks experiences. Sakré will shape the accompanying soundtrack using ambient textures and lo-fi beats alongside influences from South Indian cinema.

Visiting practitioners broaden the wellness programme

Patina Resonance, the resort’s visiting-practitioner series, continues throughout the season with treatments beyond the hotel spa menu.

Holistic therapist and aquatic bodyworker Jasmin Küster is currently in residence until 14 October. Her individual treatments combine water therapy with Chi Nei Tsang, fascia-focused somatic bodywork and massage techniques. Each session is adjusted to the guest, with an emphasis on physical release and deep relaxation.

Japanese wellness specialist Minako Saito arrives on 15 October for a month-long residency ending on 15 November. As founder of the Platinum Ritual Series, Saito works with deep-reaching warmth and therapeutic techniques intended to calm the nervous system and support restorative sleep.

Guests can choose from thermal rituals and neuro-relaxing facials, while further treatments focus on women’s wellness. These address areas including hormonal balance, pelvic wellbeing, hip mobility and nervous-system regulation through a personalised approach.

Breathwork practitioner and holistic therapist Thalia Jones will complete the announced calendar from 15 December to 15 January 2027. Returning after a residency earlier in 2026, Jones will lead guided breathing sessions and holistic therapies centred on awareness of the body and breath.
