Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, Mallorca welcomed its first guests on 1 June 2026, bringing the hotel group to a pine-covered peninsula near Puerto Portals on the island’s southwest coast.
The opening marks Mandarin Oriental’s debut resort in the Balearic Islands and its third property in Spain, following Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona and Mandarin Oriental Ritz, Madrid. Set on the former Hotel Punta Negra site in Calvià, the property brings together 131 rooms and suites with six dining concepts, a seaside spa and extensive outdoor facilities.
Its position is one of the main attractions. The low-rise resort sits among Aleppo pines and gardens, with cliffs descending towards two secluded coves. Puerto Portals, an upscale marina known for restaurants, boutiques and regattas, is nearby, while guests can also reach the hotel by private yacht transfer.
Rooms and suites shaped by the Mallorcan coast
Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra’s 131 rooms and suites are distributed across five buildings designed to sit quietly within the coastal site. HKS and Estudio Lamela led the architectural design, while French designer Laura Gonzalez created the interiors.
Soft neutral colours, natural materials and hand-placed stone reflect the surrounding coastline. Every room has a sea view, according to Mandarin Oriental’s opening announcement, with windows and terraces also connecting the interiors to the gardens.
The accommodation includes 26 suites and nine casitas, the latter comprising four suites and five rooms. Thirteen rooms and suites have plunge pools, while five rooftop suites come with full private pools. Some casitas also feature walk-in wardrobes and private terraces, while the Punta Negra Suites offer wraparound Mediterranean views.
Duarte Correia, general manager of Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra, said the resort draws from the traditions and natural character of Mallorca. “Here, natural beauty meets contemporary, understated luxury, creating experiences that celebrate the true art of Mallorcan living,” he said.
Art features throughout the property, in interiors and outdoor spaces. Guestrooms and shared spaces display work by local and international artists, while an outdoor pathway links galleries with site-specific installations across the gardens and terraces. Madrid-based art consultant Paloma Fernandez-Iriondo oversees the programme.
Six dining concepts include Matsuhisa and Leña
Dining at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra ranges from Japanese-Peruvian cooking to contemporary Spanish food, with several restaurants built around open-air terraces and Mediterranean views.
Matsuhisa, the resort’s Nikkei-style restaurant from Nobu Matsuhisa, serves sashimi and sushi alongside Japanese-influenced cocktails. Leña by Dani García is a modern steakhouse focused on live-fire cooking, an open kitchen and dry-aged meat, including García’s signature yakipinchos.
Jacinta brings Mexican cooking to the resort through tacos, tostadas, tamales and tortillas. Leppoc, the all-day restaurant, draws on Mediterranean and Levantine flavours using Spanish and Balearic produce, while its connected Garden Bar serves cocktails and Spanish wines, including bottles from Mallorca.
Sobretaula offers tapas, cava and house-made lemonades on an alfresco terrace. Beside the pool, Thalos serves relaxed Greek-inspired dishes during the day and into the early evening.
Executive chef Sergio De La Plata said locally sourced ingredients sit at the centre of the programme. “Each dish tells a story – of the product, the producer, its origin and the surrounding landscape,” he said.
A seaside spa and outdoor activities
The seaside spa at Mandarin Oriental Punta Negra has nine treatment cabins, including suites for couples, as well as a dedicated relaxation room. Its menu combines the group’s Asian-inspired wellness approach with ingredients and practices connected to Mallorca.
Signature treatments include the Curandero Experience, which uses local herbs and traditional healing practices. The Tea Ceremony combines Spanish and Oriental rituals. Additional facilities comprise a hydromassage pool, steam rooms, cold plunges and aromatherapy showers.
Elsewhere, the resort has two outdoor pools for adults, a children’s pool and an indoor pool. A 24-hour fitness centre supports activities including seaside tennis, coastal yoga, cycling routes and access to Mallorca’s golf courses.
The two coves below the property provide an alternative to the pools. Small boats anchor offshore, and the rocky, pine-framed setting remains a familiar swimming spot.
Opening rates and offer
Mandarin Oriental has launched a Be the First to Stay offer with daily breakfast and a discount of up to 10 per cent. It also includes a daily credit that can be used for dining or spa services, subject to availability and the offer’s terms.
Opening packages were priced from €1,500 per night for two guests. Rates change depending on room category and travel date, with the resort entering its first summer season shortly after its June debut.
