Nestled in the heart of St Lucia’s lush green rainforest, perched gracefully atop a 1000ft high volcano ridgeline with breathtaking views of the Pitons and the deep blue Caribbean Sea, the Ladera Resort looks more like something from fiction than reality and is one of the best luxury resorts in the Caribbean.
The beautifully crafted eco-conscious Ladera Resort has been constructed of tropical hardwoods, stone and tile, with local artwork and furniture made on site by St. Lucian artisans adorning the interior. Every room and suite has an “open wall” so you can see the stunning Pitons rising up from the sparkling Caribbean Sea, as well as your own private heated plunge pool.
Designed for ultimate relaxation there’s an abundance of ways to unwind. Each room and suite comes complete with an eco-friendly Jade yoga mat, and optional complimentary one hour yoga sessions are on offer Monday to Friday. There’s a wellness gym on site where you can workout while taking in the majestic views, complimentary private guided tours of the Ladera Gardens and hikes along the Ladera Ridge and there’s a complimentary shuttle to and from the beach Monday to Saturday. “Where do I begin…. The scenery speaks for itself, but what separated this resort from the others is the hospitality. Vienney, Leah, and Rosemary, were only a handful of humble and caring staff who were beyond accommodating. Their level of service was unmatched and would without a doubt bring us back to this resort in a heartbeat.” Tripadvisor Review
Best food & drink
1. Roast conch
Executive Chef Nigel Mitchel and his staff are dedicated to showcasing fresh native ingredients from island farmers and neighboring plantations that grow their produce primarily for the resort. Chef Nigel’s cooking renders stylish interpretations of traditional St. Lucian dishes, including roast conch with pickled vegetables served in a yam basket.
2. Plantain gratin
Served with a coconut rum sauce.
3. Dasheene special
Dashene has a great cocktail list including the Dasheene Special with Lucian Rum, Blue Caracao, banana and coconut cream.
The best activity at the Ladera Resort is to simply sit, lay, bathe and unwind while the lightly scented tropical breeze washes over you and you drink in your unreal surroundings. It’s not every day you get to swim in the open air while the iconic Piton spires rise from the stunning Caribbean Sea right in front of you after all.
And if you fancy a light shuffle, not too far of course, from your room and to sample another stunning view along with award-winning St Lucian cuisine you can spend an hour or two in Dasheene, trying their amazing range of cocktails and locally sourced foods.
When you’re staying at the Ladera Resort the setting really is unique, which means there’s plenty to see and do right on your doorstep.
There are complimentary tours of the Ladera Gardens, guided nature tours, yoga classes and sunrise meditation sessions.
If you feel like venturing further afield you can go beach horse-back riding, sailing and snorkelling, dolphin and whale watching or even spend a day visiting nearby Martinique. And on Fridays you can join the popular street party in Anse La Raye, with plenty of seafood, drinks and entertainment.
The food and drink available at the Ladera Resort is locally sourced and lovingly prepared, and almost as spellbinding as the views.
During your stay you can attend a mixology class and learn how to make one of Dasheene’s signature tropical cocktails, as well as a chef’s cooking demonstration to uncover the secrets behind one of the exquisite Caribbean specialities you’ll find on Dasheene’s menu. There is also a guided market tour on Saturday mornings where you can get a close up look at the huge variety of fruits and vegetables grown on the island.

It’s hard to describe the first impressions of Calabash Cove Resort & Spa in a way that will do the first few steps, and that view, justice, but the closest thing we can liken it to is taking a slow, deep breath and then feeling your whole body begin to relax as you exhale.
Looking down at Marigot Bay from the meandering island road in the St Lucian hills above as we approached the resort, with its sparkling waters and dramatic rainforest backdrop, was a spectacular way to get reaquainted.
It really says something that the design of The Lone Star Hotel & Restaurant is so impressive that your gaze is torn between its sleek white structure, and the mesmeric beach it’s nestled on.
