HunterMoss’s January winter itinerary takes a convoy of luxury SUVs along Rossfeld Panorama Strasse before stopping at a castle hotel on Lake Fuschl. Further into the Austrian Alps, guests have two days to choose between Porsche ice-driving circuits, skiing and snowboarding, or the hot tubs and saunas of an Alpine wellness resort.
The operator’s Winter Ice Driving Tour runs from 12–18 January 2027, beginning in Munich and finishing in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. HunterMoss says the small-group journey covers more than 750km, combining three road-driving days with six nights in five-star accommodation. Prices start at €19,490 per person, with two guests sharing a vehicle and room.
A three-night stay in the Austrian mountains gives the middle of the trip a more settled pace. The optional two-day Porsche experience occupies this part of the itinerary, while guests who prefer other winter pursuits can spend their time on the pistes or at the hotel. Driving is a choice throughout: passengers are welcome, including those who would rather leave every road stage to their travelling partner.

From Munich’s Old Town to Lake Fuschl
Munich provides the starting point, with guests transferred on arrival to the historic five-star hotel in the Old Town. The group gathers for a welcome aperitif, followed by an evening meal at a traditional Bavarian brewery and restaurant. The first evening is given over to the city; the road journey begins the following morning, after a driver briefing.
The opening stage combines Autobahn sections with the German Alpine Road and Rossfeld Panorama Strasse. Guests travel in luxury SUVs, with the precise selection depending on the tour and availability. Lead and sweep vehicles accompany the convoy, supported by planned routes and real-time assistance.
The 15.4km panorama road reaches an elevation of 1,570 metres, with its summit section crossing a high plateau and around 1.5km running through Austrian territory. Viewpoints take in the Salzach Valley, Hoher Göll, Kehlstein and the Berchtesgaden Alps, while parking areas along the upper road offer places to stop and take in the landscape.
Lake Fuschl is the destination for the second night, where the itinerary places guests in a historic castle converted into a five-star hotel. An aperitif and seasonal dinner overlook the lake. The following day’s drive continues through the lakes region outside Salzburg, passing countryside, valleys and mountain roads on the way to the Austrian wellness resort.
Two days on Porsche snow and ice circuits
The Porsche experience moves the driving onto a bespoke course carved into ice in the Salzburg Snow Space. The advertised cars include Boxsters, Caymans, 911s and GT3s, specially equipped for the conditions, with guests learning to handle snow and ice circuits over two days.
There are new cars to try on the second day. An optional enhancement gives a guest a private car for one day. Ice driving itself is also listed as optional, so its cost and inclusions are worth confirming with the concierge when choosing the trip.
HunterMoss previously expanded its guided driving holidays into seven American destinations, combining performance cars with hotels, dining and destination activities. This winter journey uses a different arrangement: SUVs handle the Alpine road stages, while the Porsches are reserved for the dedicated snow and ice circuits.
Skiing, spa time and a three-night base
Flachau, Wagrain and St. Johann Alpendorf are the named alternatives for skiing and snowboarding during the Austrian stay. Guests can choose these mountain activities in place of ice driving, or spend the two days at the resort’s spa, where the listed facilities include hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms.
Dinner changes setting across the stay. The arrival evening includes traditional Austrian food in a nearby village, followed by a private group dinner on the next night. The final Austrian evening brings an aperitif and gourmet dining at the hotel. It is a varied sequence of village and resort meals, with the Austrian stay providing the longest opportunity to settle into one place.
Passengers can take part in the wider tour without committing to time behind the wheel. HunterMoss allows guests to ride alongside their driving partner, who can then take additional driving time. For couples with different interests, that flexibility makes the journey worth considering alongside a more conventional ski-and-spa holiday.
A Bavarian spa hotel for the final night
The sixth day returns the group to the road, combining Autobahn sections with the German Alpine Road before arriving in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The final overnight stay is at a five-star Bavarian spa hotel, adding another opportunity for wellness after the drive. The farewell dinner takes a different culinary direction, with Northern Thai cuisine on the menu.
A leisurely breakfast and time at the hotel are scheduled for the final morning, before midday checkout. The journey finishes in Garmisch-Partenkirchen rather than returning to Munich, and onward travel is listed as guests’ own arrangements. That is worth factoring into flights and transfers from the outset.
What to know before booking
The €19,490 starting price is per person, based on two guests sharing both a vehicle and a room. Room enhancements include Deluxe and Premium categories, alongside options for priority access to Junior Suites, Suites and the best available rooms at each hotel. The concierge can explain which choices are available for this departure.
Dedicated tour leaders and concierge support accompany the journey, with baggage handling, transfers and on-site coordination among the managed services. Flights, travel insurance and some meals or optional experiences fall outside the inclusions unless stated otherwise. Ask for a quote that sets out the chosen activities, room category and transfer arrangements alongside the tour price.
The vehicles are insured, with a standard €20,000 excess for damage. A pre-authorisation is taken when the tour starts and is released once it ends. HunterMoss offers an optional excess-reduction programme, which must be arranged before driving begins; the concierge provides its pricing and options. This is a significant part of the booking decision, particularly alongside the cost of the holiday itself.
Booking starts with a website enquiry, after which the Travel Concierge confirms availability and supplies the payment schedule, terms and cancellation policy. Deposits vary for bookings made within 12 months of departure, which applies to this January trip. The remaining balance can be paid in full or through an instalment plan before departure.
HunterMoss also offers to adapt the itinerary into a private journey for two or a small group. The scheduled small-group departure follows the published route, with optional enhancements available; travellers seeking a different arrangement can discuss a private version with the concierge.
