Up on the northwest coast of Mallorca, this small but magical village has attracted stars, millionaires and models for decades. It’s all green-shuttered, honey-coloured houses and pretty winding lanes. The village offers breathtaking views of the Teix mountain – part of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Everyone from The Rolling Stones to Beyoncé has vacationed in Deià, Mallorca – drawn in by its natural beauty and incredible restaurants. The low-key nightlife and rugged beaches contribute to its magic, too. Here’s our pick of the best places to stay and things to do in Deià.
Nestled on the glorious coast of Mallorca, the village of Deià is the destination for a tranquil escape, complete with natural beaches and five-star hotels (like Belmond’s La Residencia – more on that below).
Celebrities and travel experts have praised the area for its magical quality – potentially because of the majestic surrounding mountains or the scenic trails that wind through olive groves and ancient terraces.
But, it’s also a cultural haven and has been a magnet for artists and writers like Picasso, Andrew Lloyd Webber and Robert Graves. There are plenty of independent art galleries and festivals, creating an atmosphere of creativity and inspiration.
Just a stone’s throw from the Mediterranean Sea, the walk to Cala Deiá beach is more than worth it. Here, you’ll find turquoise waters gently lapping against the pebble beach and a host of excellent seafood restaurants.

Drinking in the panoramic vistas (and recovering from the steep incline).
Walk up to the hilltop church for stunning views
Hike up to the Església de Sant Joan Baptista.
Panoramic vistas
For the best views of the coastline and Deià valley, hike up to the Església de Sant Joan Baptista. Two of our good friends got married here during our trip and we just stood drinking in the panoramic vistas (and recovering from the steep incline). You’ll find the two majestic canons, preserved from the 15th century when the place served as a defence tower.

One of the chicest and most intimate places to stay.
Check into the exclusive ‘La Res’
The iconic La Residencia, A Belmond Hotel.
Luxury of privacy
Deiá Mallorca is all about the luxury of privacy and this is what attracted Sir Richard Branson to the area before he purchased the iconic La Residencia hotel (known as ‘La Res’) in the 80s. Now an exclusive Belmond hotel, it’s one of the chicest and most intimate places to stay in the village.
Highlights include the impeccably designed suites, award-winning spa (inspired by all the indigenous flora) and the hotel’s bespoke experiences – they can arrange everything from private art classes to sunset yoga and Cava tasting (or both at the same time if you wish).

Incredible Mediterranean-Asian tapas.
Try the dim sum and tapas at Nama
Visit Nama restaurant.
Chic dining
One of the chicest restaurants in Deiá, Mallorca, Nama serves incredible Mediterranean-Asian tapas. You can choose to dine in the gastro bar or outside on one of the two terraces. Definitely opt for al fresco though as you’ll be mesmerised by the blissful views. There’s also an adjoining cocktail bar designed by Matthew Williamson.
You’re spoilt for choice in terms of dishes. Order the vegan chui chow dumplings for pillowy mushroom goodness and the crispy duck salad with fresh mango and lychee to start. The signature Pad Thai is gently spiced with plenty of umami flavours, but don’t leave without trying the light-as-air strawberries and cream pandan chiffon cake.

The ideal place for a healthy and relaxed breakfast.
Have a colourful brunch at S’Hortet
Brunch at S’Hortet.
Healthy and relaxed
This little spot was recommended to us by a local, and while S’Hortet takes some seeking out, it’s the ideal place for a healthy and relaxed breakfast. We ordered the freshest smoked salmon and avocado brunch and iced coffees to cool us down, but there are also Buddha bowls, pitas and amazing pastries made on-site. The indoor seating area is also a site to behold with vintage motorcycles and local art colouring the walls.

I’d recommend two (or three) scoops of the pistachio, as it’s the creamiest I’ve ever tasted.
Order some local ice cream while you stroll
Understated little ice cream shop next door to Cafe Es Punt.
Local ice cream
This understated little ice cream shop on Deiá’s main shopping street is only open during the summer. I’d recommend two (or three) scoops of the pistachio, as it’s the creamiest I’ve ever tasted. If you feel like something healthier, there are so many delicious smoothies to choose from, too. It doesn’t have a sign so you can find it next door to Cafe Es Punt.
