1. Chewton Glen, Hampshire

Set beside the New Forest in New Milton, Chewton Glen is offering a combination of seasonal food, nature and spa time.

Its Forest Harvest Wellness day takes place on Saturday 3 October 2026. Expert Jen Williams will lead guests in foraging through the hotel’s wooded grounds before Chef and Head Tutor Gerry hosts a practical cooking workshop using seasonal ingredients. The experience also includes a Pool Bar Buffet Lunch and access to the spa facilities.

For an overnight stay, Chewton Glen’s secluded treehouses sit among the surrounding canopy with views towards the New Forest. The Studio Suite, created for two, has open-plan living space and a wraparound terrace. A quieter Twilight Spa Evening is another option for couples seeking a shorter autumn reset.

2. Bovey Castle, Devon

Surrounded by a 275-acre estate on Dartmoor, Bovey Castle is an elegant base for combining treatments with moorland walks and seasonal dining.

The hotel’s Treatment & Table spa days pair a personalised treatment with either a two-course lunch at Smith’s Brasserie or Champagne afternoon tea. Selected packages also include access to the estate, including tennis, croquet and the family leisure pool.

The wider wellness programme uses the Dartmoor landscape. Guests can join deer walks, try forest bathing or yoga, and follow woodland routes or the estate’s mindful path. Spa treatments use TEMPLESPA and BeautyLab London products, while overnight extensions add candlelit dining and views across the countryside.

3. Gleneagles, Perthshire

Located within a sweeping Scottish estate, Gleneagles now combines treatments inspired by Perthshire with science-led skincare from Dr Barbara Sturm and biotech wellness brand Seabody.

Its spa offers the only Seabody treatment available worldwide, pairing a biotech facial with Gleneagles’ restorative Long Exhale ritual. The An Taigh-Smuide experience takes a more traditional approach, using Scottish pine during a mud-and-steam treatment. House balms, oils and scrubs incorporate botanicals gathered on the estate and elsewhere in Perthshire.

Beyond the hotel, Frandy Water has a wood-fired outdoor sauna beside the water, along with a cold-plunge jetty and viewing deck. Guests travel there by Defender, which suits crisp autumn days.

4. Dormy House, Cotswolds

Set on the Farncombe Estate near Broadway, Dormy House is a cosy Cotswolds retreat with a recently introduced thermal suite built around hot-and-cold contrast.

Inside the House Spa, guests move between an aromatic steam room, Himalayan salt sauna, experience shower and snow shower. A 16-metre indoor infinity pool offers a gentler alternative, while the outdoor hydrotherapy pool and terrace hot tub bring autumn air into the experience.

Treatments use Temple Spa products across six treatment rooms, including a dedicated couples’ room. Drinks and light lunches are served at the Greenhouse spa café. Spa treatments are available to hotel residents, while non-residents can gain access by booking a spa day.

5. Sopwell House, Hertfordshire

Close to St Albans, Sopwell House has created two packages specifically for autumn 2026, both centred on the hotel’s Cottonmill Spa.

Autumn Restore includes Cottonmill Spa access, a 60-minute treatment and afternoon tea with sparkling wine. Autumn Club Restore follows the same treatment-and-tea format but includes entry to The Club at Cottonmill, the hotel’s more exclusive spa area.

The seasonal packages suit travellers who want a structured spa break within easy reach of London. Dining ranges from relaxed meals in The Brasserie to Asian-inspired dishes at Omboo, while afternoon tea is served in The Pantry. Sopwell House is also celebrating its 40th anniversary during 2026 with its Sopwell Ruby Suite Club Escape.

6. Grantley Hall, North Yorkshire

On the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Grantley Hall occupies a 17th-century country estate with 47 bedrooms and a strong food-led identity.

The adults-only Three Graces Spa has indoor and outdoor pools alongside thermal areas, a gym and specialist treatment rooms. Non-residents can choose from formats including Sunrise Spa Brunch, Twilight Spa and Sunset Swim & Spa. Hotel residents receive access from 1pm on arrival day until 1pm on departure day.

Dinner is another reason to stay overnight. The Michelin-starred Shaun Rankin at Grantley Hall uses produce from the estate’s kitchen garden alongside locally foraged ingredients. Its Taste of Home menu is rooted in Yorkshire produce, with pescatarian and vegetarian versions available.

7. Boringdon Hall, Devon

Overlooking countryside near Dartmoor National Park, Boringdon Hall is a five-star manor hotel where an adults-only spa sits alongside destination dining.

Gaia Spa includes an indoor swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, heat experiences and a gym. Hotel guests receive full access to the facilities, with complimentary classes and opening hours running from 6am until 10pm. Selected suites also have private outdoor hot tubs, ideal after a day exploring Dartmoor.

The hotel has two distinct restaurants. Àclèaf, led by Head Chef Scott Paton, holds a Michelin star and four AA rosettes, while the two-AA-rosette Mayflower Brasserie offers a more relaxed all-day menu. Spa access is limited to guests aged 16 and over.

8. Another Place, The Lake, Cumbria

Set on the shore of Ullswater, Another Place, The Lake is designed for travellers who prefer their wellness mixed with swimming, paddleboarding and time in the fells.

The Fellside Sauna, created in collaboration with the specialist operator of the same name, looks directly across Ullswater towards the surrounding peaks. Sessions include access to a plunge pool and the lake, allowing guests to alternate between heat and cold in an open landscape. Non-residents can book the sauna too.

Accommodation ranges from hotel rooms and suites to cottages, shepherd huts, a treehouse and a converted sheep shed. Dining is spread across Rampsbeck Restaurant, the relaxed Living Space, the Glasshouse and nearby Brackenrigg Inn.

9. Swinton Country Club & Spa, North Yorkshire

Within a 20,000-acre estate on the edge of the Yorkshire Dales, Swinton Country Club & Spa offers a one-night, two-day Wellness Retreat focused on gentle movement rather than an intensive schedule.

Activities may include yoga or Pilates, followed by Nordic walking or woodland mindfulness. Guests also receive a 90-minute massage ritual and Indian Head Massage, with time to use the indoor and outdoor pools. The estate’s spa garden, thermal suite and lily-covered wild-swimming lake extend the experience into the landscape.

Dinner is served at The Terrace Restaurant. Herbal teas, Epsom salt baths and wool-lined wellness bedding help maintain the retreat’s quiet pace after dark.

10. The Spa at Pennyhill Park, Surrey

Set in Surrey countryside, Pennyhill Park’s Contrast Therapy Retreat is one of the more technique-led wellness programmes available in 2026.

Oxygen Advantage coach David “Jacko” Jackson guides guests through breathing instruction and hot-and-cold thermal experiences. The programme also includes a Comfort Zone longevity treatment that uses cryo spheres alongside massage techniques inspired by acupuncture.

Available as either a day retreat or an overnight break, the experience includes spa access and a nourishing lunch. It suits travellers who want practical breathing skills and structured contrast therapy.

11. The Herb House at Lime Wood, Hampshire

Hidden within the New Forest, Lime Wood’s Herb House is hosting Sonic Freedive, a distinctive experience built around breath, sound and warm water.

Musician and Gong Master Rich Hale joins breathwork facilitator Tracey Howes for a session combining free-diving-inspired breathing with sound healing. The hydrotherapy space is transformed with low lighting, warm water and seating warmed by heated stones, giving the session a setting distinct from a standard treatment room.

Guests spend time in Herb House before the session begins, allowing the experience to form part of a longer spa visit. Lime Wood’s New Forest location is inviting when the woodland begins changing colour.

12. The Gainsborough Bath Spa, Bath

In central Bath, The Gainsborough Bath Spa is the only UK hotel with access to the city’s natural mineral-rich thermal water.

Treatment bookings include a four-hour Bath House Experience, while the wider circuit includes a sauna, ice chamber and dedicated relaxation areas. Guests can enjoy baths fed by thermal waters and the steam rooms, offering an atmospheric indoor retreat when autumn weather closes in.

The direct connection to Bath’s thermal heritage sets The Gainsborough apart from conventional hotel spas. It suits travellers who want historic surroundings and mineral-water bathing within walking distance of the city’s architectural landmarks.

Autumn spa programmes and specialist retreats can have limited capacity, especially around weekends and October half-term. Booking treatments alongside accommodation helps secure both.
