The Mercer has relocated to Threadneedles, the five-star City of London hotel housed in a former banking hall dating from 1856.
The British brasserie spent 18 years at 34 Threadneedle Street before moving to the hotel at number five, a short walk from its original address. It is now accepting reservations for weekday dining, private meals and events.
Announced by hotel operator YTL Hotels on 27 August 2026, the move brings the established restaurant into one of the City’s historic properties. Threadneedles occupies the former headquarters of the London, City and Midland Bank, with marble columns and a hand-painted stained-glass dome preserved from its Victorian past.
The Mercer will continue serving the traditional British dishes associated with its former restaurant. Its official website presents the relocation as a continuation of the existing brasserie, retaining its approach to food, service and hospitality in a new space.
The Mercer’s British brasserie menu
Located close to the Bank of England and Royal Exchange, The Mercer is designed to work equally well for a concise City lunch or a more leisurely meal. Its menu focuses on British ingredients and familiar dishes served with the polished presentation expected of a traditional brasserie.
Starters announced for the new location include Dorset crab on toast and seared Scottish scallops. The signature Mercer pie remains among the main courses, alongside Cornish lamb shepherd’s pie and 28-day dry-aged Hereford beef.
Classic puddings and a selection of British cheeses complete the menu. The menu keeps the restaurant’s identity closely connected to its former address.
The launch announcement lists lunch from noon to 3pm, Monday to Thursday. The restaurant’s current contact page publishes wider weekday hours, with lunch from noon to 3pm and dinner from 5.30pm to 9pm, Monday to Friday. Its bar is listed as open from 11am to 11pm on the same days. Guests should check the live schedule when reserving.
Private dining inside Threadneedles
The Mercer’s relocation also expands the dining options available for gatherings at Threadneedles. The restaurant is taking bookings for autumn and the festive season, including corporate functions and private celebrations.
Guests can choose from three private dining rooms, according to the restaurant’s website, while the entire restaurant can be hired for larger occasions. Bespoke menus and tailored service are available, although capacities for the individual rooms have not yet been published.
Elsewhere in Threadneedles, the Grand Room provides another elegant setting for private dining and events. Marriott lists capacity for up to 90 guests at a seated dinner or 120 at a standing reception, making it suitable for larger company functions and celebrations.
The move preserves The Mercer’s connection with the financial district while placing it within a hotel that can accommodate overnight guests. For businesses planning meetings, dinners or festive events, the restaurant and hotel can now form part of the same booking.
The banking hall setting
Threadneedles, Autograph Collection is a boutique-style hotel at 5 Threadneedle Street, opposite the Bank of England and close to Bank Underground Station. The Royal Exchange, Leadenhall Market, St Paul’s Cathedral and the Tower of London are all within reach on foot.
The Victorian building’s banking heritage remains central to its interiors. A former banking counter has been adapted into the hotel bar, where the menu covers cocktails, wines, spirits and light bites.
Above the Dome Lounge, the circular stained-glass canopy introduces colour and natural light into the central space. Dating from 1856, it creates a distinctive setting for afternoon tea and all-day dining while retaining the building’s original character.
Afternoon tea will continue alongside The Mercer’s arrival. Guests are served scones fresh from the oven and delicate pastries, followed by finger sandwiches, with fine tea or Champagne available to accompany them.
The Mercer joins the hotel’s existing food and drink programme alongside it. Lunch or dinner at the restaurant can be paired with cocktails at the historic counter, while the Dome Lounge offers a quieter option during the afternoon.
Staying at Threadneedles
Threadneedles combines its heritage public spaces with contemporary rooms and suites in the City. Guest accommodation includes bedding and marble bathrooms, while the property also offers room service, free Wi-Fi and a 24-hour reception.
Its position is convenient for both the Square Mile and wider central London. Liverpool Street Station is walkable, and Tower Bridge and The Shard are less than a mile away.
YTL Hotels’ announcement lists nightly rates at Threadneedles from £299. Prices vary by date and room category, and bookings are available through the hotel’s official website.
