OUTRIGGER Koh Samui Beach Resort is positioning its Lamai Beach retreat as a screen-light family escape shaped by Thai culture and hands-on conservation.
Surrounded by tropical gardens, the five-star resort sits across the road from the beachfront and combines family accommodation with four swimming pools, a children’s club, Thai-inspired activities and visits to local conservation projects. Its quieter location, away from Koh Samui’s busiest tourist areas, also makes it practical for multi-generational holidays.
The colonial-style property has 146 rooms and suites, with accommodation designed for families of up to five. Beyond the gardens, pools and beach club, its programme introduces younger guests to native plants, recycling, seagrass meadows and the wildlife living around the island.

Family rooms designed for shared stays
Family Connecting Rooms provide separate sleeping spaces without dividing the group across the resort. The Family Pool View Interconnecting category covers 688 sq ft, sleeps up to four people and joins a king room to a twin room, with a private shower room for each.
The 613 sq ft Family Garden Terrace Rooms offer a more playful arrangement, pairing a king-size bed with bunk beds for two children. A private terrace looks towards the resort gardens, creating a useful outdoor space for quiet mornings or downtime between activities.
Larger groups can consider a Club Lamai Suite, which accommodates up to five guests across 753 sq ft. These suites include a separate living area, a four-poster bed and a marble bathroom with a shower and tub. The Voyager 47 Club Lounge offers non-alcoholic drinks, while access also includes snacks served in the afternoon, cocktails in the evening and a chef’s tasting plate.
Each room and suite comes with one of three outdoor arrangements: a garden terrace, French balcony or private balcony. Under the resort’s listed family plan, up to two children aged 12 or under can stay without an additional accommodation charge when sharing existing beds with their parents, subject to each room’s occupancy limit.
Coral Kids Club, pools and laser tag
The Coral Kids Club programme runs daily from 10am to 7.30pm for children aged four to 12. Its indoor and outdoor activities include games, Thai-inspired crafts and simple lessons about native plants, island wildlife and recycling.
Families can move between the courtyard pool on the resort side and the Edgewater Family Beach Club across the road. The beachfront facility has four pools and a children’s waterslide, making it easy to alternate between swimming and relaxed time beside Lamai Beach.
For rainy afternoons, Koh Samui Laser Tag, described by the resort as the island’s sole indoor venue for the activity, is open daily from 10am to 8pm. It is intended for adults and children aged six or over, with sessions priced at THB 450++ per person for one hour.
The games room and non-motorised water sports provide further options, while the daily children’s schedule offers a straightforward way for younger guests to meet others during a longer stay.
Thai culture and active mornings
The resort’s weekly activity calendar gives each morning a different pace. Yoga is offered beside the Edgewater beachfront pool on Mondays and Saturdays, with meditation on Tuesday, tai chi on Wednesday and Pilates on Friday. Thursday begins with stretching, while Sunday has a beach run.
Basic Thai boxing takes place at 9am each day in front of the laser tag venue. Sessions cost THB 750++ per person, offering families with older children a structured introduction to Muay Thai without leaving the resort.
Afternoons move between creative workshops and beach activities. Depending on the day, guests can try batik or canvas painting, make gel candles, decorate bags, learn simple Thai phrases or create a tie-dye T-shirt. Water polo, volleyball and aqua exercise bring the programme back outdoors.
Some workshops carry a separate charge, generally between THB 250++and THB 450++. Reservations can be made through the OUTRIGGER Koh Samui mobile application or the Front Office team.
Crab banks, seagrass and island farming
Koh Samui has seagrass meadows just offshore, and they provide habitat for marine species while helping protect the coastline. Through its OUTRIGGER Zone programme and collaborations in the community, the resort helps advance seagrass restoration, responsible fishing practices and community conservation.
The local Baan Tai Crab Bank project released three million crabs during the previous year, and families can visit it. The experience shows children how crab banks support marine populations by protecting egg-bearing female crabs and releasing young crabs into local waters.
Another excursion leads to BannYa Suanpu Learning Center & Farm, where visitors can discover approaches to sustainable island farming. Recycling sessions and beach clean-ups are also available through the resort, giving children a direct role in caring for the coastline they have come to enjoy.
These activities complement the traditional rhythms of a beach holiday. Families can spend the morning beside the water, visit a community project later in the day and return to the resort for a relaxed evening meal.
Beachfront dining and time for parents
Located at the beachfront complex, Edgewater serves Thai dishes and international favourites from 11am until 10pm. Its open setting overlooking Lamai Beach works well for casual lunches after swimming and early dinners with children.
Breakfast is served at Māla Kitchen between 6.30am and 10.30am. Guests staying in eligible suites and Club Garden Rooms can also use Voyager 47 Club Lounge, which opens from 11am to 7.30pm.
While children join supervised club activities, adults can book morning yoga or Muay Thai, try batik painting or visit one of three massage salas at Edgewater. The combination allows families to share much of the day while still making room for separate activities.
Rates and travel details
Nightly rates start from THB 3,413, approximately £75, excluding taxes and fees. The resort fact sheet lists taxes and service charges of 18.7%, subject to change, while deposit and cancellation conditions vary by booking rate.
OUTRIGGER Koh Samui Beach Resort is around 25 to 30 minutes from Koh Samui International Airport, although the hotel advises allowing at least 45 minutes for the journey. Paid airport transfers can be arranged through the property, and taxis are available from the airport rank.
