Octant Praia Verde, a luxury hotel set between pine forest and Atlantic coastline in Portugal’s eastern Algarve, has completed its largest renovation and expansion to date.
The transformation introduces 19 rooms and suites, including top-floor accommodation with private rooftop plunge pools. A new spa, two swimming pools, a Technogym fitness centre and the Praia Verde Beach Bar have also opened as part of the project.
Located a few minutes’ walk from Praia Verde beach, the hotel offers a quieter base than the Algarve’s busier resort areas. Its renewed interiors draw on the soft colours and natural textures of the surrounding dunes, while the expanded facilities strengthen its appeal as an all-year coastal retreat.
Nightly rates at Octant Praia Verde now start from €450 per room, including breakfast and based on two adults.
The new Praia Collection adds 19 rooms and suites
The central addition is the Praia Collection, a separate three-storey accommodation building created for guests seeking more privacy and living space close to the beach.
Terracotta, stone, natural wood and linen give the interiors a warm, restrained character, with light-filled rooms looking towards the ocean and pine forest. Selected categories also include private terraces or balconies.
Four Terrace Rooms occupy the ground floor, each with its own outdoor space and direct access to the new adults-only swimming pool. Eight suites sit on the middle floor, while the seven top-floor rooms place the greatest emphasis on private outdoor living.
Five of those top-floor rooms feature private rooftop plunge pools. The remaining two are the flagship Praia Collection Master Suites, which combine private terraces and plunge pools with uninterrupted ocean views. Their balconies open towards the greenery of the forest, creating a sense of separation from the hotel’s shared spaces.
Every room and suite in the collection has an upgraded minibar stocked with premium spirits, ready-to-serve cocktails, regional delicacies and bespoke Portuguese teas. Cocktail-making equipment and a SMEG kettle are also provided, while the tea selection comes from Infusões com História and includes a blend created specifically for Octant Praia Verde.
The new collection extends the hotel’s accommodation concept, with contemporary details and pieces made in the region. The design uses local materials and muted tones to connect the rooms with their eastern Algarve setting.
A new spa and adults-only pool
The hotel’s first dedicated spa introduces four treatment rooms alongside a heated indoor swimming pool. A sauna and steam room complete the thermal facilities, with natural stone and warm timber continuing the calm visual language used across the renovation.
Outside, an adults-only heated pool sits within the spa garden. Ground-floor guests in the Praia Collection can reach it directly from their private terraces, while the surrounding planting provides a more secluded alternative to the hotel’s other communal areas.
A fully equipped Technogym fitness centre has also opened. Together, the indoor pool and treatment facilities allow the wellness programme to operate throughout the year, including during the quieter months beyond the Algarve’s main summer season.
Praia Verde Beach Bar opens on the sand
Set directly on Praia Verde’s golden beach, the new Praia Verde Beach Bar brings the hotel’s food and service closer to the Atlantic. It is open to both hotel guests and walk-in visitors, with natural materials and neutral colours suited to the coastline.
The menu focuses on relaxed seaside dining and dishes suited to sharing over a long lunch. Algarvian tuna salad and red prawn carpaccio are among the regional highlights, alongside Iberian Pata Negra ham from Zambujal and familiar beachside plates.
Hotel guests can travel between the property and beach by buggy. A reserved serviced area provides sunshades, loungers, towels and chilled water, while food and drinks from the bar can be ordered directly to the loungers during the day.
The beach can also be reached by a wooden boardwalk through the coastal landscape. Seaside picnics featuring regional produce are available as part of the hotel’s broader experience programme.
À TERRA returns with renewed dining spaces
À TERRA, Octant Praia Verde’s signature restaurant, has undergone a complete indoor and outdoor redesign. Handcrafted ceramics and woven textiles bring texture to the dining room, while furnishings sourced locally reflect Algarve craft traditions and support regional makers.
The kitchen continues to centre on rustic, farm-to-table cooking. Seasonal produce is prepared in wood-fired ovens and on a Josper grill, giving the menu a close relationship with the landscape between the forest and ocean.
Fresh market fish and Santa Luzia octopus sit alongside wood-fired rice dishes and pizzas. The cooking draws on the food traditions of the Algarve and nearby Ria Formosa, with a menu rooted in local dishes.
Elsewhere, the lobby has been redesigned and the gardens newly landscaped, improving the flow between communal areas and opening them more fully to the grounds.
Eastern Algarve experiences beyond the hotel
Octant Praia Verde’s location provides access to the salt pans, fishing communities and waterways of the eastern Algarve. Its bookable experience programme includes visits to salt producers and oyster farms, as well as dolphin-watching excursions and private boat journeys.
Guests can also arrange horseback riding, golf or tennis tuition. More specialised options include jeep trips through the Baixo Guadiana, night-sky viewing from the beach and nature outings focused on chameleons and nocturnal insects.
The hotel works with Vita Nativa – Environmental Conservation on wildlife experiences around the property. Salt-pan visits generally last between two and three hours, while Baixo Guadiana jeep excursions are available in three-hour or six-hour formats for up to six guests per vehicle.
Activities are subject to seasonal conditions and availability. The hotel recommends booking at least 72 hours ahead, and transfers may cost extra when transport is not included in the experience.
Local materials shape the renovated hotel
Architect Miguel Saraiva of Saraiva + Associados led the renovation and expansion, with Pureza Magalhães of Pureza Design responsible for the interiors. Teresa Barão of Topiaris handled the landscape architecture, while Huître completed the construction under the supervision of Enescoord.
The project continues Octant Hotels’ emphasis on properties connected to their location. The Portuguese group operates six boutique, design-led hotels, each using regional food, craft and landscape as the basis for its identity.
