InterContinental Halong Bay Resort has detailed its family-focused facilities, from creative children’s activities and teen gaming to spacious residences designed for multigenerational holidays.
Located in the Ha Long Marina Urban Area, approximately two hours from Hanoi, the beachfront property overlooks the limestone islands of UNESCO-listed Ha Long Bay. Opened in 2025, IHG described it as the destination’s first luxury resort from an international brand.
Its 275 accommodation options comprise 174 guest rooms and suites, 41 private villas and 60 residences. The varied layout allows parents, children and grandparents to stay close while retaining separate bedrooms or living areas.
The resort’s family facilities now extend well beyond accommodation. Planet Trekkers provides largely technology-free activities for children aged four to 12, while The Games Room gives older guests a dedicated place for gaming, films and classic table games. Outside, a family pool and concierge-arranged excursions connect longer stays with Ha Long Bay itself.
Flexible rooms, residences and private villas
InterContinental Halong Bay Resort offers interconnecting rooms and suites with separate living spaces, alongside residences with one to three bedrooms. Larger parties can choose multi-bedroom villas, several of which have private pools.
The accommodation mix allows extended families to spend time together while retaining separate bedrooms or living areas. Residences provide domestic-style flexibility, while the villas place more emphasis on privacy and resort service.
The largest option is the Halong Bay Estate, a six-bedroom beachfront villa that opened in June 2026. The estate spans a reported 2,200 square metres overall, with 565 square metres previously described as interior living space, and faces the bay from its outdoor infinity pool.
Inside, guests have access to generous living and dining areas, as well as a gym, cinema, library, billiards room, private spa and sauna. A butler team looks after the estate throughout each stay, while the official resort listing also includes private-chef service among its features.
Arrival can be requested from 9am, with departure available as late as 5pm. Families can also arrange private service of breakfast, afternoon tea, canapés and evening cocktails, making the villa well suited to celebrations or holidays involving several generations.
Planet Trekkers for children aged four to 12
Planet Trekkers, the resort’s dedicated children’s club, opens daily from 9am to 8pm. Its indoor play areas and creativity zones are largely technology-free, although a television is available for occasional use, and an outdoor play space sits directly beside the club.
The programme combines crafts with active sessions. Children can try origami, traditional conical-hat painting, balloon making, animal-mask creation, mini bowling, toy archery and swimming classes.
Several workshops draw on Vietnamese festivals and traditions. Previous activities have included paper-bracelet making for Vietnam Reunification Day and handprint tote-bag workshops marking International Children’s Day. These activities introduce younger guests to Vietnamese culture in an informal setting.
A dedicated library offers Vietnamese folk tales, interactive stories, science books and discovery titles. Illustrated marine adventures and stories about friendship reflect the resort’s coastal setting, providing a quieter alternative to the organised sessions outside.
A separate games room for teenagers
Older children and teenagers have their own retreat in The Games Room, also open from 9am to 8pm each day. The space combines digital gaming with air hockey, foosball, darts and billiards.
A dedicated cinema area runs an updated schedule of family-friendly films. Separate from Planet Trekkers, it gives teenagers a space designed around their interests while younger children use the club.
Elsewhere around the resort, families can join beach volleyball, beach football and outdoor archery. Seasonal celebrations are complemented by coffee-making workshops and cooking classes hosted through the restaurants and bars.
Pools and downtime for different generations
Three main swimming pools create distinct spaces for families and adults. The family-friendly outdoor pool has gentle water features and a separate aquatic playground, while the adults-only Ocean View Pool overlooks Ha Long Bay and offers service from Del Mar.
Club InterContinental guests can use a heated indoor lounge pool, although children under 12 are not permitted. Select villas and residences provide further privacy through their own pools.
Parents can also visit Hidden Lagoon, the resort’s signature spa, where treatments take inspiration from Vietnamese wellness traditions and the surrounding landscape. A fitness centre and yoga area provide more active alternatives.
Club InterContinental guests have access to a private lounge serving breakfast, afternoon tea, cocktails and canapés. It opens daily from 7am to 11pm, though children under 12 are not permitted after 5pm. The combination of supervised children’s facilities and separate adult spaces makes it easier for family members to spend parts of the day independently.
Six dining venues across the resort
InterContinental Halong Bay Resort’s six restaurants and bars range from relaxed poolside dining to elaborate Cantonese dinners. Marina Kitchen is the all-day restaurant with seafood specialities, while La Baguette operates as a French-Vietnamese bistrot.
Del Mar takes its design inspiration from the floating fishing village of Cửa Vạn and serves guests beside the pool. Vue, next to the main lobby, is the setting for afternoon tea and cocktails with bay views.
Roku – Star Bar & Dining Room occupies the tenth floor and rooftop, presenting Japanese cuisine through six classical cooking techniques. Its bar includes a premium sake collection and low or no-alcohol drinks produced with specialist dealcoholising equipment.
For group celebrations, Yulong Mansion offers modern Cantonese cooking in a two-storey dining room overlooking the limestone seascape. Family excursions around Ha Long Bay
The resort’s concierge can arrange half-day or full-day experiences shaped around each family. The most unusual is dining inside Dragon Pearl Cave, placing a private meal within one of Ha Long Bay’s natural caverns.
Other destination experiences previously offered through the resort include pottery workshops at Little Colmar Studio and visits to Ha Long Pearl Farm. Trips to centuries-old pagodas and temples can add cultural context to days spent around the beach and pools.
The resort is also positioned for excursions to sights including Sung Sot Cave, Bai Tho Mountain and Fighting Cocks Islet. Noi Bai International Airport is approximately 169 kilometres away, making a road transfer from Hanoi the most direct route for many international families.
With children’s and teen facilities operating until 8pm, several accommodation styles and excursions beyond the beachfront, the resort is set up for families planning a longer stay rather than a brief stop before a bay cruise.
