An Eden-Roc buoy becomes a gold-coloured playing piece, while the seaside pavilion appears on the banknotes. Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc has turned its grounds, landmarks and Riviera history into a custom Monopoly game, illustrated by Nice-based artist Haydée Otero.

The hotel announced a production run of just 500 editions, priced at €280 and available from 20 October 2026. Every square honours a place, a service or a chapter of the property’s story, bringing the Grande Allée and Fontaine aux Tortues to the board.

The game arrives ahead of Christmas, with details that will be particularly familiar to returning guests. Its subject is a hotel that opened in 1870, where a promenade, a rose garden and a pool carved into seaside rock have become as much a part of its identity as the rooms themselves.

A board built around the hotel

The French and English edition, sold through Eden-Roc Riviera Collection, preserves traditional Monopoly rules. The setting changes to Cap d’Antibes, with 28 title deed cards and hotel-themed buildings: 32 rooms and 12 suites take the place of the familiar houses and hotels.

Six gold-coloured tokens represent emblems of the property. Alongside the Eden-Roc buoy are the Autobianchi Bianchina Eden-Roc, a Queen Elizabeth rose and a director’s chair, the latter acknowledging the hotel’s connection with the Cannes Film Festival. The selection gives players a choice of pieces drawn from the sea, the gardens, motoring and cinema.

Chance and Community Chest cards introduce hotel experiences as game scenarios. These include a private tasting at Louroc and a game of pétanque with Philippe Perd, the hotel’s Managing Director. The banknotes feature Pavillon Eden-Roc, the building beside the cliffside pool, while the box also contains a game guide and two dice.

Louroc holds one star in the 2026 MICHELIN Guide France. The guide describes its Mediterranean cooking and sea-view setting, noting that vegetables come from local market gardeners and fish from small-scale fisheries, alongside tableware largely made by Provençal artisans. It is a specific reference for a board whose details extend beyond the hotel’s architecture to the experiences guests associate with a stay.

Mediterranean colour, illustrated by hand

Haydée Otero created the illustrations for the board, banknotes and box. The founder of Anisette Design brings together collage with painting, drawing and cutting, using blues and greens that echo the natural surroundings of Cap d’Antibes.

Otero grew up in Bordeaux and trained at the École des Beaux-Arts before moving to Nice, where she has been based for more than 25 years. Anisette Design describes her Mediterranean-inspired practice as drawing on architecture, plants, light and landscapes, with greens reflecting vegetation and blues recalling the sky and sea.

Those subjects give her a close connection to the commission. The hotel’s buildings and grounds provide architectural and botanical details, while its coastal setting supplies the palette. Her original artwork continues across the different game components, giving the money and packaging the same illustrated character as the board. The edition’s visual interest lies in that complete treatment, as well as in its recognisable hotel references.

The history behind the landmarks

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc’s history begins in 1870, when the original Grand Hotel du Cap opened on 26 February. The property marked its 150th birthday in 2020; this edition celebrates the longer span of its Riviera history.

The Grande Allée predates the hotel itself. Created in 1863, the promenade later became the setting for Chanel’s Cruise 2011–12 presentation in 2011. Its appearance on the board connects the earliest development of the grounds with a much more recent moment in the hotel’s fashion history.

Pavillon Eden-Roc and the seawater pool were built in 1914. The pool remains one of the property’s defining features, carved into the seaside rock, and the pavilion now receives its own tribute on the game’s currency. Together, they give the edition a reference to the hotel’s relationship with the Mediterranean.

The Queen Elizabeth rose token has an equally precise origin: the variety grows in the hotel’s rose garden, alongside a wisteria the property describes as more than 150 years old. Elsewhere on the seafront, 1929 saw the addition of 33 cabanas above the rocks. The hotel still has 33, used for private relaxation, spa treatments, meals and drinks beside the water.

Rudolf August and Maja Oetker bought the property in 1969, and it took the name Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in 1987. French “Palace” recognition followed in 2016. Today, its 111 guestrooms are spread across the original Villa Soleil, Eden-Roc Pavilion and Les Deux Fontaines residence, with four rental villas in the gardens or nearby. That collection of buildings helps explain the breadth of material available for a hotel-specific board.

A new addition to the Riviera Collection

Eden-Roc Riviera Collection already sells objects intended to bring aspects of the hotel home. Its existing range includes a €240 beach towel, a €180 crochet pouch and a €270 inflatable lifebuoy, placing the Monopoly edition within an established collection of hotel-branded gifts and accessories.

The shop also carries a collaboration with Hercule Studio, described as drawing on the two brands’ French Riviera roots. Hotel-monogrammed pieces include an Archy fitness mat from €275 and a Galé comfort pad at €120. The Monopoly adds an illustrated board game to a range that already spans beach accessories, exercise equipment and keepsakes, with Otero’s artwork giving this release its own identity.

Price, delivery and planning a purchase

The Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc Monopoly costs €280, with shipping included. The online shop lists delivery within three to five days and allows returns within 14 days. The French and English edition is limited to 500 copies and is available while supplies last.

The hotel also names the Eden-Roc Riviera Collection boutique as a purchasing option. Visitors should check access before travelling: the hotel is now in its seasonal closure, and its shopping information describes the collection boutique as accessible to hotel guests and people with restaurant reservations. Online ordering is the straightforward option for an autumn purchase.

The limited run makes timing relevant for Christmas buyers, though the edition has only just launched. Its appeal is clearest for someone with a connection to the hotel, an interest in Riviera design or a taste for distinctive board games; the artist, landmarks and bespoke components give the gift its specificity.

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc’s next season runs from 18 April to 17 October 2027, for travellers planning to follow the illustrated version with a stay on Cap d’Antibes.
