Down Hall Hotel, Spa & Estate has launched two overnight wellness retreats combining mindful movement and restorative treatments at its country-house setting near London.
Running on selected Fridays from 25 September to 11 December 2026, the new programme includes a Reformer Pilates Retreat from £135 per person and a Sound Bath Weekend Retreat from £225 per person. Both prices are based on two guests sharing a double or twin room.
Set within 110 acres of landscaped gardens and parkland on the Hertfordshire and Essex border, Down Hall is less than an hour from London and around 15 minutes from Stansted Airport. Its proximity to London and Stansted Airport makes the retreats suitable for travellers seeking a short countryside break.
The launch comes as more travellers build restorative experiences into their holidays. British Airways research cited by the hotel found that 22% of adults were interested in trying a sound bath while away.

Reformer Pilates Retreat at Down Hall
The Reformer Pilates Retreat is new to Down Hall’s 2026 schedule, pairing a personalised exercise session with an overnight stay, morning yoga and breakfast.
Guests check in at Down Hall from 3pm on Friday before attending a 4pm class at Rural Health & Fitness, a neighbouring countryside fitness studio with extensive Reformer equipment and more than 20 years of experience.
Reformer Pilates uses a moving carriage, springs and adjustable resistance to support controlled, low-impact exercise. Down Hall’s session focuses on alignment, flexibility, core strength and posture, with an expert instructor tailoring the class to those taking part.
After the afternoon class, guests return to Down Hall for an overnight stay in one of its 98 individually designed rooms. Accommodation ranges from characterful rooms in the historic country house to renovated Estate Patio Bedrooms and Suites with a more contemporary finish.
The following morning includes yoga and meditation from 9am to 10am. Breakfast is served between 8am and 10.30am, allowing guests to eat before or after the class depending on their preferred pace.
The Reformer Pilates Retreat costs £135 per person, based on two people sharing a double or twin room. It is scheduled for:
- Friday 25 September 2026
- Friday 16 October 2026
- Friday 20 November 2026
- Friday 11 December 2026
Wet-spa access is not included in this package. Guests who want to use the spa facilities or arrange additional treatments must book and pay for them separately before arrival.
For travellers drawn to active wellness rather than a treatment-led spa weekend, this is the more movement-focused of Down Hall’s two new retreat formats.
Sound Bath Weekend Retreat
Down Hall’s Sound Bath Weekend Retreat includes a short spa treatment, a workshop, an evening sound bath and a morning on the estate.
The retreat begins on Friday afternoon, with 25-minute treatments scheduled between 3pm and 4.15pm. A welcome session runs from 4pm, followed by one wellness workshop from 4.30pm to 5.30pm.
Depending on the retreat date, that workshop will be one of the following:
- Yoga
- Breathwork
- Guided journalling
- Vision-board workshop
- Crystal and manifestation workshop
Each retreat includes one workshop rather than the complete selection. The sessions are led by Camilla Sheeley, Down Hall’s resident Wellness and Holistic Consultant, whose wider programme at the hotel also covers meditation and mindful movement.
At 5.30pm, guests move into the sound-bath experience. The hour-long session uses the sustained tones and vibrations of sound bowls to encourage physical stillness and relaxation. Down Hall describes the intention as creating harmony through sound, with possible benefits such as an enhanced sense of wellbeing and broader awareness.
A two-course dinner is served from 7.30pm to 9pm, followed by an overnight stay at the hotel. There is a break between the sound bath and dinner, with no further scheduled activity that evening.
Saturday begins with yoga and meditation from 9am to 10am, followed by breakfast. The final scheduled experience is an 11am guided woodland walk through Down Hall’s parkland, finishing at noon.
The Sound Bath Weekend Retreat costs £225 per person, based on two guests sharing a double or twin room. Dates are:
- Friday 2 October 2026
- Friday 23 October 2026
- Friday 13 November 2026
- Friday 27 November 2026
- Friday 4 December 2026
This package combines treatment time, gentle movement and outdoor space within one overnight stay, while the Pilates retreat has a stronger focus on exercise.
Rooms, dining and spa facilities at Down Hall
Down Hall is one of England’s established country-house hotels and a member of the Elegant Hotel Collection. Its facilities include two-AA-Rosette dining, a luxury spa and the separate outdoor Barn Spa.
Breakfast for retreat guests is freshly prepared and served in The Potting Shed, the hotel’s relaxed garden-facing restaurant. Down Hall also has the Fox Bar, a terrace and formal gardens for guests who want to extend their time at the property beyond the organised itinerary.
The hotel has invested £3 million across two recent renovation programmes. A £1.5 million project completed in 2024 covered its Estate Patio Bedrooms and Suites, Grand Hall, The Potting Shed, Fox Bar, terrace and formal gardens. A further £1.5 million was spent in 2025 on family bedrooms, landscaping and new outdoor areas.
On 14 September, Down Hall was named Boutique Hotel of the Year 2026 at the Boutique Hotelier Awards in London. It was also named AA Hotel of the Year 2024/25 for England and holds two AA Rosettes for its dining.
What to know before booking
Both retreats are short, structured breaks beginning on Friday afternoon and ending after the Saturday morning programme. Guests should arrive in time for the first scheduled activity, particularly the Reformer class, which takes place away from the main hotel at Rural Health & Fitness.
The advertised prices require two people to share a double or twin room. Wet-spa use and treatments at The Barn Spa are not included unless specifically stated within the retreat itinerary, so additional spa time needs to be reserved and paid for separately.
Yoga is presented as appropriate for practitioners of every ability, beginners included. Guests with injuries, mobility requirements or concerns about Pilates equipment should contact the hotel before booking to discuss the sessions.
Reservations for all nine dates can be made through Down Hall’s upcoming events page. The first Reformer Pilates Retreat takes place on 25 September, followed by the first Sound Bath Weekend on 2 October 2026.
