If your ideal Christmas involves someone else cooking lunch, carols over dinner and a Champagne toast you didn’t have to pour yourself, Ireland’s south-west is making a very persuasive case this year. The Scally Hotel Collection, the family-run group behind three of the most characterful hotels in Cork and Kerry, has revealed its festive line-up. It ranges from a full three-day Christmas stay to a €24 finger-food reception for the office party, with plenty of afternoon tea in between.
The Scallys have been hoteliers for three generations, and their properties couldn’t be more different from one another. Their own history traces things back to Killarney Royal Townhouse, the collection’s original hotel. The family bought The Great Southern Killarney, which dates to 1854, in 2014. Five-star Hayfield Manor opened in Cork in 1996, so it’s celebrating 30 years this year. (St Helen’s in Dublin joined the group in 2025, but this round of festivities is all about Cork and Killarney.)
Here’s what’s on at each hotel, plus the dates worth knowing if you want to time your stay around the towns’ own Christmas celebrations.
Cork: a five-star Christmas at Hayfield Manor
Cork’s festive programme has had a rebrand. What many of us still call Corkmas is now officially A Cork Christmas Celebration, and it brings a Christmas market, a parade and light installations to the city centre. One thing to note: the parade arrives early this year, on Sunday 15 November. So if that’s the bit you’re most excited about, book a pre-Christmas weekend rather than waiting for December.

The full Christmas stay
Hayfield’s Christmas residential package is the headline act, and it’s designed for people who’d like to hand over the whole of Christmas to someone else. It starts on Christmas Eve with dinner, live carols and a luxury turndown gift.
Christmas Day brings a traditional Christmas lunch with a Champagne toast, a visit from Santa Claus, and a buffet supper with live music in the evening. St Stephen’s Day is gloriously low effort: time in The Beautique Spa, followed by a final celebratory dinner. Breakfast on 27 December rounds things off before you head home.
It’s from €2,048 per person, based on two sharing. That’s a serious spend, but it covers three days of being thoroughly looked after, with no washing-up in sight.
Seeing in the New Year
For a shorter break, the New Year’s Luxury Stay runs over 29–31 December as a two- or three-night escape. There’s a Champagne reception, a four-course gourmet dinner, live entertainment and, naturally, a Champagne toast at midnight.
The nicest extra is complimentary access to the spa throughout your stay. That means the indoor pool, steam room, outdoor Jacuzzi and gym, which is exactly what you want on 1 January. Two nights start from €615 per person and three nights from €880 per person, both based on two sharing.
Afternoon tea in Orchids
If you’re only popping in, the Festive Afternoon Tea is the one to book. It’s three tiers of seasonal pastries and cakes with speciality teas and coffees, served in Orchids Restaurant. It runs Thursday to Sunday, from 1pm through December, and costs €65 per person, or €70 with Champagne. (Have the Champagne. It’s Christmas.)
Festive dining
For a festive meal, you can choose between the more relaxed Perrotts Garden Bistro, from €85 per person, and the more formal Orchids Restaurant, from €90. The announcement lists both as three-course menus. The hotel’s own dining page, however, describes them as four-course evening meals and adds a €75 festive lunch in Perrotts. It’s worth checking which you’re getting when you book.
Outside the packages, nightly rates at Hayfield Manor start from €435.
Killarney: parades, markets and a grand old hotel
Killarney really commits to December. The Christmas in Killarney festival has four parades this year, on 28 November and 5, 12 and 19 December. According to the festival, each one starts at 6pm and lasts about 50 minutes to an hour, so you’ll be back in the warm in plenty of time for dinner.
The Christmas markets run Friday to Sunday from 4 to 20 December, on Old Market Lane near Market Cross. The Scally collection bills them as County Kerry’s largest. Line up a market weekend with a parade night on the 5th, 12th or 19th and you get the full festive hit in one short break.
Foodies should also keep an eye on Dine in Killarney on 19 and 26 November. More than 30 restaurants around town serve three-course menus for €39.95 per person, which is a lovely way to eat your way round the town before the Christmas rush.
The Great Southern Killarney
The Great Southern has had a busy year, with a refurbishment, five-star status and a programme of falconry, foraging and cultural experiences. Its festive focus is on dining.

In Arbour, the hotel’s brasserie, a three-course festive dinner is followed by tea, coffee and mince pies, for €75 per person. There’s also a celebratory afternoon tea with a seasonal twist, from €58 per person, if you’d rather do your festivities in the middle of the afternoon.
The hotel’s own Christmas page also lists a three-night Christmas stay, from Christmas Eve through to St Stephen’s Day. Champagne, festive dining, music performances and Santa’s visit are included. No price is listed online, so you’ll need to enquire.
For New Year, there’s a two-night escape to see out 2026, with full Irish breakfasts, dinner in Arbour and live entertainment all the way up to midnight. Nightly rates at The Great Southern start from €375.
Killarney Royal Townhouse
The collection’s original hotel is a boutique townhouse right in the heart of Killarney. It’s leaning into what a smaller, more intimate place does best: hosting a crowd.

Its private dining options work for groups of all sizes:
- A festive buffet with a choice of two hot dishes, seasonal salads and artisan breads, from €35 per person
- A four-course dinner with a festive tipple, from €52 per person
- A three-course lunch, €45 per person
- A finger-food reception in The Pantry, €24 per person
If you’re organising a family get-together or a team night out, that range makes it easy to pitch things right. Pick the buffet for the sprawling family lunch and the four-course dinner when you want it to feel like an occasion.
For smaller parties, the hotel’s festive page has a festive dinner menu and festive lunch available on request throughout December. Its central location also means the markets and parade route are on the doorstep, rather than a taxi ride away.
Nightly rates at Killarney Royal Townhouse start from €285, the gentlest entry point in the collection and a cosy base for a market-and-parade weekend.
