Autumn cabin stays pair crisp days outdoors with long evenings beside a wood burner. Across England and Wales, these seven Canopy & Stars retreats pair rural settings with hot tubs, outdoor fires, deep baths and well-equipped kitchens.

The collection ranges from an off-grid cabin for two near the Dorset coast to a spacious Somerset hideaway with its own sauna and gym. Nightly rates start at £128, with options for couples, groups and travellers bringing a dog.

Canopy & Stars says its team personally inspects the places in its collection, which includes nearly 850 properties across the UK and Europe. The company is majority employee-owned, B Corp-certified and partly owned by a charitable trust.

1. Little Miller Skáli, Devon

Little Miller Skáli is a secluded cabin for two overlooking woodland and open countryside in Devon, with a king-size bed positioned to make the most of the view.

Inside, warm timber surfaces and a hanging wood burner create a comfortable place to read while rain taps on the roof. The deck extends the living space into the landscape, with a barbecue, firepit and wood-fired hot tub for evenings beneath the trees. Farm animals provide much of the surrounding soundtrack.

The cabin has no Wi-Fi, while mobile coverage depends on the provider, making it better suited to a quiet weekend than a working break. Its kitchenette is compact, with a single gas hob and a small fridge, so simple meals or pub reservations are the practical choice.

Bude and the Hartland Devon Heritage Coast are around 30 minutes away by car. One baby can stay free, and parking is just 10 metres from the cabin.

Best for: Couples who want woodland seclusion with the option of a coastal day trip.

From £175 per night.

2. Dutch Stays, Shropshire

Set on a fourth-generation family farm in the Shropshire Hills National Landscape, Dutch Stays is a timber cabin for two with vast windows facing a pine forest.

The king-size bed sits beside the glass, placing the trees at the centre of the room. Rich wood, softly lit interiors and a fire make the cabin feel sheltered as daylight fades. Outside, a copper bath offers another way to warm up, while the Kadai firebowl and nearby chairs make it easy to stay outdoors after sunset.

Caer Caradoc and the area’s historic hill forts provide rewarding walking options during the day. There is no Wi-Fi and mobile service is limited, although Church Stretton station is only a 10-minute drive away.

Up to two pets are accepted for an additional charge. Guests should also expect the everyday sights and sounds of a working farm, including livestock and farm dogs. Parking is 120 metres away, with a trolley available for luggage.

Best for: A digital detox with forest views and walking routes close by.

From £128 per night.

3. The Heron’s Haunt, Yorkshire

The Heron’s Haunt is a secluded Yorkshire cabin built around one remarkable feature: a personal library containing around 4,000 books.

With around 4,000 books, the cabin is well suited to weekends spent indoors when the weather turns. A wood burner warms the living space, while cards, games and puzzles provide alternatives when it is time to put the book down. The cabin also has a copper bathtub and a wood-fired hot tub, with firewood and hot-tub use included in the stay.

A covered porch looks over the surrounding countryside, providing a sheltered place for coffee even when the weather turns. Beyond the cabin, Fountains Abbey is 6.4 miles away, while Ripon Cathedral and Harrogate’s Turkish Baths offer further day-trip possibilities.

The cabin sleeps two in a super king-size bed. One dog is welcome for a fee, with a bed and bowl supplied, and one baby can stay free if guests bring their own equipment.

Best for: Readers seeking a quiet cabin where staying inside is part of the plan.

From £229 per night.

4. Swallowshay, Dorset

Located on organic Fivepenny Farm, where the East Devon and Dorset National Landscapes meet, Swallowshay is a hand-built, off-grid cabin for two about 10 minutes from the sea.

Solar power covers lighting and phone charging, but there is no Wi-Fi. A wood burner heats the cabin, while the kitchen has a two-burner gas hob and small oven. Outside, guests can cook with the pizza oven or Kadai firebowl before settling into the wood-fired bath beside the hedgerows.

Charmouth Forest begins around 200 metres away, making morning walks easy to arrange without driving. Lyme Regis is five miles from the farm, and the South West Coast Path, Undercliff and Seaton Wetlands offer longer outings.

The approach from the parking area is around 160 metres, with a wheelbarrow supplied for bags. The nearest shop is two miles away in Charmouth, so arriving with food is sensible. Initial firewood is included, with additional supplies available to buy.

Best for: Couples looking for an analogue escape with access to woodland and the Dorset coast.

From £140 per night.

5. Camelot, Somerset

Overlooking the Somerset Levels, Camelot is a large cabin designed for four guests, with space for two additional adults on a mezzanine.

It has the most facilities in the selection. A six-person hot tub sits beside the deck, while a private sauna and gym give guests more ways to relax without leaving the property. Indoors, the wood burner anchors a generous living area, and sunken baths offer another place to warm up after a cool-weather walk.

The cabin also has a pizza oven, projector, streaming services and Bose audio. Covered outdoor seating keeps the countryside view usable when the weather is unsettled, while Dutch bikes are available to borrow for local rides.

Wells is three miles away and Fenny Castle Vineyard can be reached in around 15 minutes on foot. Cheddar Gorge is 9.7 miles from the property. Wheelchair users can use the ground-floor bedroom, with a single-level interior and doorways more than 81 centimetres wide.

Best for: Friends or couples planning a sociable autumn weekend with private spa facilities.

From £488 per night for four, with additional adults charged separately.

6. The Lodge, Cumbria

Set on the Edenhall Estate near the Lake District, The Lodge is a three-bedroom cabin for six surrounded by woodland, river scenery and private estate trails.

The estate offers hiking, cycling, fishing and wildlife watching. Back at the cabin, armchairs are arranged around the log burner, while the kitchen is equipped for substantial dinners after a day outside. The deck includes a hot tub overlooking the estate, where deer may pass by.

Two bedrooms have king-size beds and the third has a double, with one sleeping area positioned on a mezzanine. Unlike several smaller cabins in the collection, The Lodge has Wi-Fi. Two pets can join for an extra charge, and two babies stay free.

Penrith is about five minutes away by car for food and firewood. The station has direct trains from London, with a journey time of approximately two hours and 50 minutes. From the parking area, guests reach the cabin along a lit woodland path with steps.

Best for: Families or groups who want Lake District access without giving up space, connectivity or a hot tub.

From £324 per night.

7. Twll Triongl, Powys

Set on Castell Cyfeiliog Farm in Powys, Twll Triongl is an A-frame cabin for two overlooking rolling Welsh hills edged by woodland.

The king-size bed occupies a mezzanine reached by a spiral staircase, leaving the main floor open for a leather sofa and compact kitchen. A rainfall shower provides a comfortable indoor option, although the deck is the cabin’s main outdoor feature. It has a firepit barbecue and hot tub, both positioned for sunsets and stargazing over the surrounding countryside.

Glyndŵr’s Way National Trail and Machynlleth are nearby, while the coast is around 30 minutes away by car. Aberdyfi Beach is 17 miles from the cabin and the Dyfi Osprey Project is 12 miles away.

Parking is 50 metres from the cabin along a lit gravel path. Firewood for the wood burner is provided initially, and more can be purchased during the stay.

Best for: A romantic Welsh countryside break combining fireside evenings with coast and hill walks.

From £149 per night.
