Baoase Curaçao has replaced the former Baoase Luxury Resort name, and the Balinese-inspired property on Curaçao’s southern coast will add 14 accommodations in early 2027.
The expansion will take the waterfront property from 23 to 37 accommodations, an increase of about 60 per cent. Baoase says its service model and intimate atmosphere will remain central as the resort grows.
Oceanfront Pool Suites and Junior Suites will form the new collection, according to Drift Travel. The Oceanfront Pool Suites will have private pools, extending a style of secluded accommodation already found among Baoase’s existing villas and suites.
A further swimming pool for all resort guests and an additional restaurant are also planned, Drift Travel reports. Baoase has not disclosed the restaurant’s concept, menu or opening date, and these facilities were not detailed in the resort’s official announcement.
The new Baoase Curaçao name
Located close to Willemstad in the Marie Pampoen area, Baoase has built its identity around Balinese-influenced architecture, lush tropical gardens and a private Caribbean waterfront. The new name foregrounds the resort’s Curaçao setting.
Baoase describes the transition as a clearer description of the existing resort, with no change in ownership or positioning. Its design continues to draw on the tranquillity and craftsmanship associated with Bali, while the new name recognises the island and the local employees who have shaped the guest experience.
“The transition from Baoase Luxury Resort to Baoase Curaçao is not a change in who we are, but a clearer expression of who we have always been,” managing director Thijs van der Valk said in the resort’s official announcement.
The property began as the van der Valk family’s private home before developing into a boutique resort. Its new identity retains the Baoase name while giving greater prominence to its Curaçaoan setting and local hospitality.
Oceanfront suites shaped by guest experience
Baoase says the 14 new accommodations reflect almost 15 years of experience with guest preferences. The design will combine greater privacy and contemporary comforts with integrated technology, although specific in-room systems and amenities have not been announced.
The collection is intended to feel consistent with the existing resort instead of operating as a separate stylistic addition. Private pools will distinguish the Oceanfront Pool Suites, while the reported communal pool will give guests another option beyond the private pools and existing infinity pool.
“This expansion is not about becoming bigger; it’s about becoming better,” director Niels van der Valk said. “Growth only has value when it strengthens the guest experience.”
The property’s appeal rests on its compact scale. Even with 37 accommodations, Baoase Curaçao will remain small beside many full-service Caribbean resorts.
The resort currently offers accommodation ranging from rooms to private villas, alongside a private beach, infinity pool, beachfront restaurant and yacht available for charter. Isla Kiniw, its private island, can accommodate up to eight guests.
The additional restaurant would broaden a dining programme that already includes the Culinary Beach Restaurant and private meals in secluded parts of the property. Further details about its food, design and reservation model have yet to be released.
Reader awards raised Baoase’s international profile
The announcement follows major reader-voted recognition during 2025. Travel + Leisure ranked Baoase first among 25 resorts in the Caribbean, Bermuda and the Bahamas, awarding it a reader score of 98.68.
Nearly 180,000 readers participated in the wider World’s Best Awards survey, casting more than 657,000 votes across over 8,700 destinations and properties. Resorts were assessed on rooms and facilities, location, service, food and value. Baoase also placed 25th in Travel + Leisure’s global hotel ranking.
The resort has separately received first-place Caribbean recognition through Condé Nast Traveler’s Readers’ Choice Awards. The two accolades come from different voting programmes, with Condé Nast Traveller’s 2025 awards based on votes from its UK readership.
These results have increased the profile of a family-run property that remains much smaller than many of the region’s best-known resorts. The early 2027 expansion will add capacity without moving Baoase into large-resort territory.
Court approved construction in Marie Pampoen
The public expansion announcement follows an April 2026 decision by the Curaçao Court of First Instance concerning construction in the surrounding Marie Pampoen neighbourhood. The court rejected a nearby resident’s objection to a permit for 12 hotel suites in two buildings on parcels adjoining her home.
The permit had been granted on 24 July 2025 for construction at Winterswijkstraat 8 and 10. The objection argued that hotel development was incompatible with the area’s residential character and could cause disturbance.
The court found that hotels were permitted as a recreational use within the area’s urban-residential zoning. It also concluded that the proposed buildings complied with height restrictions, fitted the neighbourhood’s spatial structure and would not cause an unacceptable loss of housing.
The court case concerned 12 permitted suites, while Baoase’s later announcement covers 14 new accommodations. The published material does not reconcile those figures, which relate to different descriptions or stages of the development.
Baoase has given early 2027 as the opening period for its new collection, but no exact launch date or accommodation rates have been announced.
